    I could be worng.

    Agreed?

Not a chance. And lose that silly old "I got this email" business. The
purely simple fact is that a killfile solves both your and her desperate
problem with me. I'm here because I want to be. I post things about
food, culinary principles and other stuff as I see fit. Just like
everybody. You're asking me to ignore the sort of "negative,
argumentative, humorless" stuff you've posted. I don't think so.

Your snotty posts are what prompted me to come after you. No hero with a
white hat, just don't like that smug surety and the nasty fairy tales
you feel perfectly safe in promoting. You really ought to read my posts
besides the ones for you. I posted this a few days ago:

It's hard to remember, but very little you see here is actually a person
speaking. Most people assume "identities" that they wouldn't dream of
asserting anywhere else. So they let their normal restraints slip and
post the most amazing things. (I stopped posting under my whole name
because I began to get so much spam. But since I sign my posts with my
first and last names and there's exactly one person on earth with my
full name... see how it is?)

Anyway, it's the newest great anarchy; the biggest free-for-all in
history. If it ever makes you want to cry or if you want to throw
something at your monitor, it's time to walk outside and watch a
hummingbird. Or a nasturtium. Or listen to the tinkling laughter of a
child being a child. Watch clouds shift and move and imagine where
they're going next and who can see them.

It's not world peace or freedom from hunger. It's not justice or
forgiveness of sin. It's just a funny game of shuffleboard where the
players sometimes try to figuratively hit each other with the sticks.
The big difference is that there are no prizes and no one wins. And no
lasting injuries except perhaps to the already crippled.

    <lol> Well put Bob. :-)

I, too, used to take Usenet WAY too seriously!
So much so that I'd obsess about my answers to some posts all day long.

    I don't do that anymore...

I realize it's an anarchy so learnt to use it mostly for entertainment
now, even tho' I will admit to learning a lot here.

Like learning about Black Soy Beans!!!!!!! ;-d

You are oft' one of the more useful posters so when you get beastly with
me, I try to throw it back at you with a sense of humor!

Works for me.... and works with Sheldon too!

I really do like Lass', she has a sharp wit and is picking up the low
carb lifestyle with a gusto. She's also a lot of fun off the group by
    private e-mail.

    Cheers!

We did when I first joined RFC... ;-)
It was under a different identity.

And I deserved what I got!
Unfortunately, my intro. to usenet was MFW so I went into RFC with an
    attitude. I've learnt better now.

    Thanks for the compliment!

I think you and Bob still do. Not that you should feel bad about
that. But I liked his post anyways.

  6. Well, that's unfortunate, Bob. You had a chance to be a bigger person
than you're evidentially capable of being.

I dont think this is true: "It's hard to remember, but very little you
see here is actually a person speaking. Most people assume "identities"
that they wouldn't dream of asserting anywhere else....."

I think most people present themselves on-line pretty much the way they
are. JC is clearly one exception and I expect you are another. I think
what you mean to imply is that you're not as big as [censored] in person as
    you are on-line.

...Which is probably not true, either, but at least serves to help
convince yourself you're some kind of "great guy" in RL and not REALLY
the on-line [censored] at all. I can see why that would be important.

No matter.....Ive been dissapointed by a person's "true colors" before.

You can't just stop it, can you?

"evidentially" you're simply unable to live with any situation that
isn't exactly as you want it to be. It must -MUST - conform to your
desires or you will grind out these repetitive, wearisome, gormless
insults and punish the evildoers. As if...

I told you my name, what's yours? Oh, Lass Chance isn't an "identity." I
    see...

And I don't really care if you believe it or not. You've shown a goodly
number of your beliefs and I feel pity when I see you pile more
jaundiced foolishness atop yesterday's and the day before's.

    Quoted message said:

I think most people present themselves on-line pretty much the way they

So you're a belligerent, uninformed blowhard in real life, too? You
vomit your homophobic comments in public? You offer psychological
assessments about people's character and their likely history standing
in front of strangers who can grab you by the throat when you say the
sorts of things you offer here?

See, I don't believe that. It's why you post under a fake identity. So
you're not being held to any accountability. You can say anything and
get away with it because you post standing behind a mask. An identity. A
nice, safe anonymous identity. You're very brave when no one can see
you. There are some bad names for people like that.

    Quoted message said:

what you mean to imply is that you're not as big as [censored] in person as

No, I said what I meant. But I note that you seem to have enormous
difficulty with reading simple sentences and straightforward assertions.
Actually, I didn't write it to you at first because I was pretty sure
you wouldn't get it. As you've just demonstrated.

By the way, that's not just my opinion based on something over a decade
of online experience, it's also what the sociological community is
saying about the interactions they see. Usenet has created an entirely
new cultural phenomenon of anonymous interactions. People can assume
whatever synthetic persona they wish to, as you do, or they can hang it
out with a real name and take whatever lumps they earn, as I do.

    Quoted message said:

You see nothing. And you prove it anew with each post. You're a sad
little gamer with no real substance to offer, complaining and whining
and lashing out when things don't go your way. You spew these gratuitous
denigrations as though they had any currency or truth to them. I'm truly
hard-pressed to accept that you actually believe what you post. Sad, sad
picture if you do. And maybe sadder still if you don't.

    Quoted message said:

No matter.....Ive been dissapointed by a person's "true colors" before.

<sigh> Life is *so* difficult when having to deal with lesser mortals,
    wouldn't you say...?

Life's a [censored] and so are you. And I mean that in the nicest possible
way. You're unfortunately glib with only two modes of normal operation
here: unctuously phony with an implied intimacy for those who buy your
oily, back-slapping, chummy fakery, or, belligerent smugness offered
with malice and specific falsehood. How wonderful. Your whole family
must be so proud of your blatant, passive-aggressive K-Y Jelly slipperiness.

  9. Well, Bob, I used to use my real name in Usenet, being a trusting sort
and generally expecting the best of people. The result was having my
home address posted, along with my phone number, creating a security
risk that was unnecessary and easily preventable, in hindsight.

That was then and this is now...but I dont need to learn the same lesson
    twice. Im quick, that way.

The more folks like you I meet in these hallowed Usenet halls, the more
    sure I am
    that personal anonymity is important.
The mere fact that you'd LIKE to know my name is reason enough to not
use it. After all, a pain-in-the-ass jerk-off on line is as threatening
as, say, a beer fart, unpleasant, but insignificant. In RL, they have
    to be shot.

See, it was a little fiction. A vignette. A bagatelle that required the
same sort of suspension of disbelief as the comic strips in today's
newspapers. It was a response to a fatuous, self-congratulatory post
that had as its goal to restate her cliched pure, white-cloaked

    Dear Fatuous Fathead:
Funny how indignant you act - and it has to be an act - when treated as
you treat others. There's a biblical passage that applies to your behavior:

    Resonations, 11:12-15
If thou can'st not bear the return-ed heat of the cooking hearth, get
thee out hence out of the scullery. For thou shalt surely only become
scorch-ed and thine jawbone of an ass fried. Strongly as thou deservest
for thine manure of the bull.

Buy a dictionary, a thesaurus, an interpreter and a ghost writer so you
at least have a remote chance of keeping up.

The more folks like you I meet in these hallowed Usenet halls, the more

The mere fact that you'd LIKE to know my name is reason enough to not
use it. After all, a pain-in-the-ass jerk-off on line is as threatening
as, say, a beer fart, unpleasant, but insignificant. In RL, they have to
    be shot.
GREAT JOB GUYS. HERE COMES THE ETHNIC COMMENT. HAVE HAVA NAGILAH PLAYING
    SOFTLY IN THE BACKGROUND...
    Who needs the tsuris?
KEEP THE KEY LIGHT ON HER... DIM SLOWLY TO FULL BLACK WHILE SHE STANDS
THERE WITH HER HEAD BOWED AND BOTH HANDS CLUTCHED, WHITE-KNUCKLED, TO
    HER BREAST IN REASONABLE FRUSTRATION...
    HOLD IT... LET IT FINISH...
    AND... LIGHTS DOWN, NOISES OFF...
EVERYBODY... FANTASTIC JOB. HER UTTER PREDICTABILITY MAKE THIS ONE EASY

LITTLE KIDS AND STUFFED BUNNIES AND BEARS TO MAKE IT EVEN MORE HOKEY.
MARJORIE, COULD WE DO SOMETHING WITH THE HAIR? MAYBE PIGTAILS TO MAKE
HER LOOK MORE INNOCENT? THINK ABOUT IT.

What was that about 'gratuitous insults", again?

The more folks like you I meet in these hallowed Usenet halls, the
more sure I am that personal anonymity is important. The mere fact
that you'd LIKE to know my name is reason enough to not use it. After
all, a pain-in-the-ass jerk-off on line is as threatening as, say, a
beer fart, unpleasant, but insignificant. In RL, they have to be
    shot.

Stuff like this is "gratuitous insult." You know perfectly well why I
raised the issue of identity. It had nothing to do with who your are in
the real world. It had everything to do with the fact that you hide
behind a fake name to post the stuff you do with no accountability.

And yet you put this phony-baloney spin on it so you can once again
offer snide innuendo instead of substance. Nasty accusation instead of
explanation about yourself. Evasion instead. Diversion instead.

Nothing "gratuitous" in that. It's all observations about what you've
actually posted. No inventions. No "creativity" in fictional scenarios.
Just you and what you do. And don't do.

    See the difference?

And that's exactly what it was. Quite by design.

    I knew that. ;-)
'twas not a criticism, merely an observation!

Was it really necessary to "SHOUT" the whole thing dear?

All caught up in the form to the sacrifice of content, are we?

Missed this part up at the top?

"Wait a second. Why is she standing in that spotlight on that huge
stage? Why... why... it's a performance art piece. Oh, look at the

"Oh, look, there's a stage manager SHOUTING into his mic to the
    backstage crew... What's he saying...?"

See, it was a little fiction. A vignette. A bagatelle that required the
same sort of suspension of disbelief as the comic strips in today's
newspapers. It was a response to a fatuous, self-congratulatory post
that had as its goal to restate her cliched pure, white-cloaked
virginity and total innocence of anything negative.

    No, seriously...

I'm wondering if she is going to get creative in return..... ;-)
