**Steve hasn't got a business! He likes to pretend that he has, but he no
more has a photography tour business than he has any photography "awards".
It's all Kramer [censored] and fantasy. He actually lives off of his wife
Nobuko who supports both of them by way of an apartment she owns in Osaka
which she rents out whilst they're living in Thailand, and a pension (she is
    a retired school teacher).

Easy... add every individual address he uses to your message filter, if
you want to avoid having to put in hundreds of addresses pobox has a
listing of their prefixes that you can use as a wildcard to block any
addresses he uses from that service.

I've said it before, I believe if our friend put this amount of effort
into something productive, I'm sure he could do amazing things.

    Hi Howard,

I don't know in which group you saw his post, so I'll apologize to those
in groups to which it doesn't pertain.

As to impact on 'my' business, none at all.
I don't provide ANY photo tours. I teach photography and offer photo
workshops and safaris that are simple photography classes but taught in
the field. That we do them in tourist venues is secondary to the primary
goal of photo instruction. It just makes more sense to do them where the
nicer pictures are! They are instructional days, not sightseeing trips.

There have been 2-3 other companies who've tried to do this during the
seven years that I've been running my company. None of them lasted more
than a single season. On a positive note, this company does have a
beautiful web site and 'seems' to offer quite a lot. I do wish them the
    best of luck.

However.... their advert reads "Get the best shot of Chiang Mai with the
same price as a normal tour." That sounded good to me too! I called them
up as I wanted to take one of their tours to see if I could learn about
some new places to see. A 'normal tour' for visitors to this region,
perhaps going to Doi Inthanon (Thailand's highest mountain and best area
for birding in the region) costs about 1,000 baht which includes a good
restaurant lunch and soft drinks. This new company is charging 4,000
baht for the same tour but with a 'box lunch.' And when I asked about a
day tour of the temples and city life in Chiang Mai, they told me that
the cost was also 4,000 baht. More than four times the cost of 'a normal
    tour.'

You can hire a car and driver for 1,000 baht for the day here. 1,200 for
a fancier car and a driver who speaks better English. Paying 4,000 baht
(about $100 USD) for a day's tour is hardly the cost of a normal day
tour and most folks won't put up with fraudulent advertising for very long.

As for dealing with the original poster, don't worry. You won't have to
    much longer. :o)

I have to disagree... I think they have a horrid web site (one of the
worst I've ever seen), much too busy and heavily involved with links
to spam and takes way, way too long to load... and I'm using a super

    Hiya Steve!

    Sheldon

    Hi ya, Sheldon!
When saying it was a beautiful site, I was trying to demonstrate
'correct business etiquette' rather than be truthful. Sort of like the
way politicians do it. Some would call it 'lying through my teeth.' :o)

Another poster in a different group said the page was filled with
Trojans. I didn't get any warning of any when I looked at it, but I have
    automatic filters working.

NOW... as for cell phone photos.... I wrote one of my magazine columns
about how it's not film that's becoming obsolete, it's cameras. Everyday
I see more and more tourists using their phones to take pictures. The
phone I use is a SonyEricsson with a Sony 3.2 megapixel CyberShot camera
in it. I can make almost all the same adjustments; white balance,
exposure compensation, zoom, fill flash or full flash, different
shooting modes, etc., etc. Sometimes I think I actually DO get better
photos with it than with my regular gear. God knows it's a lot lighter
to carry! In fact, it does more than the 3 megapixel Canon that I bought
for Nobuko three years ago! I imagine that within the next 10 years,
wrist watches will all be phones and have very good cameras, computer
terminals with holographic displays and fax printout (teeny tiny
faxlettes) and automatic pizza delivery or speed dial for escort outcall
    services. I love progress!
