got that from, but in actuality Shumer was in love with the guy from
the beginning. They all were, pleasantly surprised with the nomination
and expressing their barely concealed delight with the nominee. He hit
a snag while the hearing was in process, but he's still going to get
confirmed.

Schumer /was/ for him -- recommended him, even -- but when he (Mukasey, that
is) refused to say that water boarding was torture (probable because it
isn't but also because he's not been briefed on classified material and
surprisingly no "interested party" has leaked it to the NYT...yet), the Dems
saw their opportunity to block the nomination and further embarrass/thwart
Bush. Schumer made some quotes expressing "disappointment" with Mukasey's
testimony; however, then his own words (which I've posted at least twice
now) came to the fore and he had to back down or be clearly shown to be a
partisan hack hypocrite.

These are FACTS, not radio talk show blather. The Dems were all set to
block Mukasey until sound bites of Schumer saying similar and even much
stronger sentiments were played. Also, the fact that Congress had at least
twice declined to outlaw waterboarding was brought forth, making their
"reason" (read: excuse) that much more UNreasonable (UNexcusable).
