  1. "I'd say one can't typically be considered "researcher" before
getting at least few hundreds of citations."

Depends on what field you are in. In experimental physics (my
main field) 10 good citations can get you tenure. Even though I
and my team managed half a dozen world firsts in a hot field, I
doubt I reached a hundred before I retired. In biological
sciences even the best workers can take decades to reach a
    hundred.

    Maybe you should've checked :-)
What branch of physics specifically are you talking about?

This is not true. I can speak with confidence about
    1) Biological sciences (specifically biomedical and genetics).
    2) Statistics.

Although these fields are seemingly very different good researchers in
these fields have thousands of citations. Even best single papers
accumulate thousands of citations. I accumulated over 100 in
statistical genetics even before I graduated. My citation rate right
now is 12 citations a month.

So, regarding physics. This paper by a physicist JE Hirsch
(arxiv.org/pdf/physics/0508025) was just publicized in Science
    Magazine (Aug 12 2005).

In author's opinion a person deserves tenure if s/he has 12 papers
each cited at least 12 times. For a full professor one has to have 18
papers, each cited at least 18 times.

The index he proposed to characterize a researcher is "h": h papers
cited at least h times. The index weeds out people writing bad papers
nobody cites, as well as those who has just few articles with very
    many citations.

While searching for the web for links to my web site, I came across one
professor who was claiming my reference to his research paper on my web
site as a citation of his research paper.

It is a small brave world after all.

Ha, ... Hah, Ha! I am being totally serious.

I recently came across a 3rd citation of my web site in an academic
    research paper.
