As of this posting I will no longer be subscribed to any of the cycle

"I'm going back to the ones that I know,
With whom I can be what I want to be.
Just one week for the feeling to go,
And with you there to help me
    Then it probably will."
-- Jethro Tull/Benefit/With You There to Help Me

    What a great tune.

We don't need much info to ride bicycles anyways.
It's not rocket surgery. As long as you can deal
mechanically with your bike, your local weather
and your local streets & roads, yer off 'n runnin'.

As for "info," it's all already been said, umpteen
    times.

"That which hath been is that which
shall be, and that which hath been done is
that which shall be done; and there is
    nothing new under the sun."
    -- Ecclesiastes sumpthin'-or-other

All that's left to discuss on R.B.M are the
subtle, picayune nuances of cycling. But
    certain, good friendships, alliances and
associations with fellow riders can be made
here too, and that's a good thing.

If you want good, solid info about cycling,
there're the Ken Kifer, the Eternal Sheldon
    Brown, bicyclinglife.com, *penn.dot.org,
    BikeSense, Jeff Napier, momentumplanet.ca
    and How-Not-To-Get-Hit-By-Cars web sites.

    cheers,
    Tom

It's my opinion that the intertoob is the best thing cyclists have
gotten in return for their considerable contributions to our
    technical evolution.

There is not one damn thing I want to know about cycling. Hells Bells, I
already know everything there is to know.

You need to try your hand at BMX Flatland, or Street.

So do I. I've always wanted to, but I've
also always considered myself too tall and
    too gawkily long-of-leg for it.

Y'know what your problem is? Your like that kid
who didn't wanna fly with Peter Pan (he's the central
character in that whole tragic story BTW,) and to your
rue opted instead to remain safely at home. Now you're
bitter, chagrined, mad at Jym Dyer, and old and getting
older and increasingly effete. You've never embraced
    Life. You're a scaredy-cat. Cowardice is your
Achilles' heel. You require an adventure. Get out and
do something. Now's a good time of year to plant
gladiolus bulbs. Maybe you'd get the opportunity to
chat with the lady who lives next-door. Remember that
flick: "Operation Petticoat?" (not the Johh Aston remake
but the orig Cary Grant one?) That crusty, mysogynistic
ol' engineer who uttered: "She's not just a woman -- she's
    a Mechanic!"

Actually I'd wait 'til the next waxing new moon
    before planting stuff.

You're not dead yet, so there's still a glimmer
    of hope for you.

I like Ken Kifer's article about manufacturing
    homemade panniers.

How can anybody be mad at Jym Dyer? That's like being
mad at Siddhata Guatama or Ed Sullivan or Dobie Gillis
or Al Hirt or Trini Lopez. Actually I'm a little mad
at Trini Lopez myself, but I'll get over it.

Anyways the song of the day is: "What's Up" by
4 Non Blondes. Dedicated to good ol' Jym, and
the kid who didn't fly with Peter Pan (you) :-p

    cheers,
    Tom

Tom, dolan is a nobody no-life, he enjoys all the

What, I've gotta dedicate "What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes
    to you, too?

    So be it.

But in your case I'll append Frank Zappa's "Dangerous Kitchen"
to the playlist 'cuz I think you'd get a kick outa that tune.
I do, myself. There's a tune by Bloodwyn Pig that's applicable
to you, too. Something about "climbing mountains without even
looking ..." Hey, it applies to me, too. Oh yeah -- it's called
    "See My Way."

Ed's not a bad guy. He's just like those HDD guys w/ Tourrette's
Syndrome -- always shootin' his mouth off without thinking.

He's like those ventriloquist folks who need a puppet to
hide behind in order to say what's really on their minds.

I've already dealt a lot with these ADD types. They'll
blurt-out occasional pearls of genius amidst their
    general, nonsensical ranting & raving.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sir Isaac Newton himself
had an HDD, rantin' & ravin' roomie from whom to
    glean ideas.

Some pre-Columbian Native cultures classify these
people as "touched," and afford them an aside but
acknowleged space in their societies. In medieval
Europe they were sought as Court Jesters, to help
    people "Keep It Real."

    That's what Ed is.

If you hate Ed, you hate yourself. Then you might
as well curl up and die.

Ed is a test. You can pass or fail.

    cheers,
    Tom

The only thing I am looking forward to is ride in the hearse resting
comfortably in my coffin on the way to the local cemetery. Too bad I won't
be conscious to enjoy it however.

    "Bang the drum slowly, and
    play the fife lowly ..."

I've spent a lot of time at palliative bedsides watching
loved ones die, and your really pissing me off. If you
decide to die I'm gonna have to kick your ass with a pair
of double-soled Dayton Black Beauties. I'll boot you
around the block like a tin can.

But hey, I appreciate all that good philosophy from a worker on the docks of

to do is die. Adventure is for the young.

    Adventure is for the /alive/.

    How dare you dis' laChaim?!
That is the worst blasphemy ever. And I've done a
    lot of blasphemy myself.

Jym Dyer needs to keep his trap shut about me if he has me in his kill-file.
How can he know what he is talking about unless he is reading my posts - and
I don't mean second hand either.

I suggest you read the Krakauer book "Into the Wild" or see the movie of the
same name. I almost was that central character (Chris McCandless) believe or
not when I was young. Yup, I wandered all over the country on a shoe string
for 10 years wondering what it would be like to live in various desolate
places. But, unlike Chris, I came to my senses in time.

Small Southern towns are great 'cuz you can
check-in with the Sheriff and bunk overnight
in the town jail fer free and maybe get a nice
home-cooked breakfast in the morning, including
a slab o' pie and an ass-kickin' mug o' coffee.

An unchecked Romanticism can easily get you killed.

I hereby challenge you to a duet.

"I Only Have Eyes For You" at dawn.

Get your seconds to bring Egg McMuffins and hash browns,
and maple syrup to dip 'em in.

Then we'll see who gets killed. Heh.

    Phffffft ... unchecked romanticism.
    Gimme a break, why don'cha.

Meantime, I'll look-up that Krakauer "Into the Wild" thingie.
But I might intersperse it with "Falling Down" w/ Michael Douglas.

    LaChaim,
    Tom
