I believe there should be a cairn at every path junction, and at reasonable intervals in between.

Apologies if this is discussed elsewhere (but I have been away for a couple of days and have a huge URW backlog) but I'm sure there was a bloke on the radio this morning suggesting that all the unnecessary cairns on Ben Nevis be knocked down so that walkers have a safe route off the mountain by following the "official" cairns.

If the route off thre Ben is to be cairned, then it will need looking after.. All other cairns must go, just one built off route could prove fatal to a party conditioned to thinking that there was a safe route off.
