    After switching to my LC paleo diet, I noticed an increase in
    endurance. I usually run for 30 minutes. I used to be tired by the end
    of the run, but now I feel as fresh as if I just started running. I
    cannot scientifically explain why that is so.

    Anyway, I would like to experiment a bit and run longer, and maybe run
    a half marathon without deviating from my LC plan. Where I end up will
    depend on how well it goes as I ramp up the distance.

    My question is, can anyone offer relevant personal experiences here?

    Another question, at slow running speed, can one run using body fat as
    primary source of energy?

    that's exactly what you're looking for? The comments are summaries written
    by Atkins professionals. I'd think you'd want something a little more
    impartial.

    Sure, provided you aren't pushing HR too high or building up lactic acid
    while doing it.

  3. When switching from a high carb, low fat fitness
    diet, enzymatic changes occur. Enzymes which burn fat become
    increasingly
    active with decrease in carbohydrates, and the body
    increases
    the storage of fat for added energy source. This explains
    why
    animals deprived of carbs show no decreased endurance
    performing
    high intensity exercises. Studies show that since high-fat
    rats
    have fat as an additional sources of energy, while high carb
    rats
    are limited to their carbohydrate stores, rats on a fat diet
    showed
    greater endurance than rats on a carbohydrate diet.

  4. Yeah, but there seems to be some limit (supposedly) at which the body
    won't burn fat and wants to burn carbs. So, high intensity exercise
    supposedly needs more carbs than low intensity.

    I think it would be more accurate to say, that is what you wanted to hear.
    Kind of like a salesman that convinced you when you were ripe for the
    picking. 😉

    Carbs are the best fuel for running and bicycling and any endurance exercise
    IMHO. I ride my bike on LC and sometimes I carb load. I have also run on
    both. There is a pretty big difference in the way I perform and feel. When
    I am on LC, I can do okay and finish, but I don't feel all that great. When
    I eat carbs before an event, it is much better and I feel like I have more
    energy. Now, here is the good news. For me, if I ride 40 miles or so, it
    doesn't make that big of a difference what I eat, so I can stay LC for those
    rides pretty easily. If I ride 50+ that usually poses a problem. Do I
    finish? Yes, but I am out of gas pretty much.

    This is my experience. That doesn't mean that everyone is this way, just
    me. I train LC and when I need to go fast with a group on a long ride, I
    load up on the carbs. It works for me. I figure by training LC, it may
    make me stronger. I don't know, but it is working pretty well.

    Hope this helps,
    Curt

    ||
    || Well, it seems like a simple enough study, subjects on LC could
    || endure
    || more than they would under HC, at low intensity. So, I think, it
    || would
    || be unlikely to be misreported. I am personally satisfied, although if
    || you show me the original abstract and show that I am wrong, I will
    || appreciate that.

    While I have no specific reasons to doubt the study, a general rule to
    follow is to NEVER accept as gospel truth the results of just one study.
    Obviously, it is useful to have as a single data point, and you can continue
    to compare your own experiences to it.
