Hi, Carol Ann, I'm Debby. It's a pleasure to re-meet you. 🙂
Quoted message said:Here's my brief story....
Quit smoking in January 2001.
Began low carbing (and coming here) on March 21, 2002 after ballooning up to
163lbs from about 125ish in a short span of about 6 months (as I recall).
In 7 weeks I dropped 20 lbs and never quite dropped below 140 for long.
Looking at my weightloss chart, it appears that I started to gain weight
back in August 2002. For nearly a year I stayed between 153 and 158.
July 2003 I became pregnant at 155lbs.
March 2004 I gave birth at 200+.
August 2004, I am at 170lbs. It's been 4 months since I gave birth and I've
lost only 30 or so pounds.
Shortterm goal: 155 (pre pregnancy weight) by December 21.
Longterm goal: 130 (sure seems like a whole heckuva lot to lose) by March
21 (my 3 year anniversary with the ASDLC).
Just felt like sharing....

I can commiserate with you. I've *never* been "normal weight." Even as
a child I was always just a little chunky. After my 1st child, I
settled in the low 150's. Same after 2nd child. I weighed 152 at the
beginning of my 3rd pregnancy, but through some miracle managed to
keep my weight down throughout, only to gain back to the 150's while
breastfeeding! (I'm only 5' tall - 150, on me, is very obese!)
I've never been very serious about controlling my weight. I've lost
weight several times in the past but never even set a goal weight to
achieve, and the lowest I've reached was in the low 120's (still 10-20
lbs overweight!). I didn't maintain that for long because I didn't
try. Three years later, I was at my heaviest weight ever, including
pre-delivery weights.
This time is different. I intend to keep at it until I reach "normal"
wieight and then do whatever it takes to maintain it. I'm tired of
being fat. Enough is Enough! LC is the way I truly *want* to eat, so I
know that this time I will succeed. Fatty meats and green vegetables
are my favorite foods. My only real problems to date have been with
portion control and lack of adequate exercise, but I am finally coming
to terms with those after 4 months.
I know it can work for you, too, if you are determined enough, and I
continue to watch for your posts proclaiming success at last.
Thank you very much for all your efforts in running the Monthly
Challenge. Just knowing that the whole world (potentially) can see our
results (or lack of) can be a real motivatiorn to try harder until we
find what works for us. I had thoughts of dropping out this month, but
thankfully I recognized my defeatist attitude for what it was and
instead increased my goal a bit this time. Hopefully it will make me
work that much harder. I *need* to challenge myself!

So ‘a calorie is a calorie is a calorie'
is not so meaningful after all: a
carbohydrate calorie is obviously
much more fattening than a fat calorie.
So do calories count? Of course they do.
But some don't count half as much as others.
