I was supposed to have several coworkers over for a brunch this a.m.
Several said they would stop through and there were a few definites that
were to be on time... well, 2 1/4 hours later - no calls and no shows.

I don't recall that you said the number of people who failed to show.
    Just curious,
    =====

14 with 6 definites to be 'on time' 5 others that would be here but not at
10:30 and three possibilites that would call and let me know...

And all the 14 were coworkers, i.e., not 7 coworkers plus spouses,
boy/girl friends, SO's etc.? Just trying for a bit of context here.
It's bad enough as it is.

A little bit of both and I was wrong - it was 15. Not 14.

But hey, it's over with and won't happen again. At least not with the same
    panel of people.

That's why I've found it expedient to not socialize with co - workers out of
the workplace anymore, I've found it's good to have a wall between my work
and personal lives. Too much potential for "drama". My *real* friends
would never pull this kind of thing on me, nor I on them...

I agree completely. I stopped socializing (aside from occasional lunch)
with co-workers outside of working hours a long time ago. Had a situation
arise where the new supervisor was hanging out with certain people after
hours, which only led to favoritism. When one of the women she was hanging
out with recommended a friend of *hers* to be hired, she was. This led to
those two always requesting the same days off, requests which were granted
by the supervisor even if other people were scheduled to be off. This left
us terribly short-handed *all* the time which is not a good thing on a Help
Desk. Work is work and should remain there at the end of the day, IMHO.

Of course Cyndi had told these people it was a brunch meeting to discuss
charitable work. Still no excuse for them to stand her up without a phone
    call.

Since I moved here right at a year ago and changed jobs just a couple of
months ago...I had high hopes that this could help to form friendships -
rather than keeping a distinct line between friends and co-workers... I had
never experienced this type of problem (a total lack of manners and/or
people that didn't follow through on what they said they'd do...) from
    "coworkers" before. Arrgghhh!!

What's done is done and won't be repeated. Lesson learned and noted.

There's a difference between being friends and being friendly. I have a
few friends. I've got a bunch of acquaintances with whom I'm friendly.

Another day, another dollar. So, what did the slugs have to say for
themselves today? I'm sure I'm not the only person who's curious.
