Your coworkers are a bunch of rude ass people, they should have at least called if they couldn't make it.
Don't take it personally, maybe they are not morning people.

Anyone in their right mind would be steamed. I remember how disappointed friends of ours were when they organized a wine tasting party. They spend a lot of time preparing for the party and had spent a lot of money on lots of good food for their friends. These are really nice people who entertain, both have great personalities and social skills, the kind of people it is a pleasure to know and to socialize with. Less than 1/3 of the invitees who had replied that they were coming showed up.
I remember how we felt when a couple who was very close failed to show up for two different surprise parties. It was no surprise that the wife was upset with me when I didn't show up for a surprise party they held. She probably thought it was petty of me not to show up as pay back for her double failure. She may be right about that :-)

It was bad enough to hear they didn't show up for brunch, then you said they had told you that they'd be part of a team to raise money for AHA and the brunch was to discuss team business and thank them.... oh, man - it's not looking good. Better to know now that they were giving you lip service than have them not show up on the big day, when I think you'd have been crushed and not simply disappointed. I'm thinking a healthy donation to the AHA would be one way they can begin to say "I'm sorry".
The upshot is you have learned they are not your friends, no matter how friendly they seem AND they are a bunch of inconsiderate flakes.
