well, there's another helpful and not sarcastic answer. i'm sure you've
    helped a great deal.

I was being serious.. if you do it by hand you will know 1. What you want to
count/not count and it is more convenient and cheaper then buying a palm
pilot. you may need to look up energy exchanges 1 hour walking=X calories
burned but if you keep that list in your Journal then it wont be THAT
    difficult.

Well, that's not what she asked and it read as sarcastic to me.

If I ask what airlines fly to Delaware don't tell me to take the bus.

I actually think in terms of time, a Palm Pilot would be cheaper. Many of
these programs allow you to create favorite foods and enter them simply
and quickly. What about recipes? How do you enter these in? A pad and
paper is simply too time consuming.

Thanks, Roger. The problem I've had with all computer-based approaches is
that it's really hard to enter data while at work. With a PDA, though,
you could enter data while at work then simply sync the PDA with the
    computer. That would rock.

FYI these are the same people that make the BodyGem and BodyMed
    devices.

Yes, I bought balancelog when I had the BodyGem test.

What do you think of BalanceLog? I've been using it for about two years
now. I've had better software but it seems to be OK. Did you look at
any other options before buying it? Do you use the Windows program or
    Palm only?

I could not get the Palm version to work on the device I had at the time.
Also, while I like the Windows version fine, I find it is just easier for me
to use fitday.com. I can get to it from anywhere and am not slaved to a
computer or file. For me, that just works so much nicer. An example. If
I'm downstairs cooking and want to play games on which way to go on a food
choice, I can just switch over to the HTPC in my system and get to
fitday.com from my family room. Or, if I'm on travel I can get to a kiosk
PC and do fitday from there. Frankly, if the fitday people would beef up the
online version as they've done with the PC version, I'd pay money to use it.
