  1. The secret? Eyeballs, connective tissues, and other 'rejected' parts make a
good bit of those burgers up. How do you think the fast food industry in
Britain spread so much mad cow disease around? From using nervous system
    bits and offal.

*shrugs* It's not bad for you inherently, but it's not something I'd be
messing with right now, especially given the news...2 cows isn't a big deal,
but it's something worth keeping in mind IMHO.

    Peace,

I like the taste of fast food hamburgers. I'd like to know if I can
simply buy ground meat, form it into patties, and fry them. Somehow,
from my past experience, it results in completely different sort of
taste and texture. So, what is the secret? How could I make fast food
style hamburgers at home? Any ideas?

Pen, at least officially, specifically for McDonalds, they only use
beef and not offal. Use of eyes and stuff, is, supposedly, a myth
invented by vegan propaganda. I am not sure where the truth lies, but
it seems likely to be the case. Meat is not that expensive, why risk
public relations trouble with adding eyes and such.

As for offal and such, that is, internal organs, I am personally quite
fond of internal organs such as liver, kidneys, heart, and even
brains, which I have not ever seen for sale in this country. I never
    liked lungs though.

I agree, they are not inherently bad for you and in fact are quite
nutritious. But it is pretty much accepted fact that the main way to get
mad cow disease from infected meat is to use the prohibited stuff...nervous
system tissue and whatnot. Organ meat appears to be the secondary method of
transport, and normal meat cuts seem to be relatively safe, even from an
infected animal. Soo...people must have gotten mad cow somehow and I'm not
buying the vegan myth idea anymore...I used to think that too...

    Peace,
    Pen

I am in Illinois... I wish I could buy brains.

Well... no, no, I'm not going to pick that one up.

I am in Iowa...... There aren't any brains over on this side of the
    river either.

I think we have a good bit of guesswork going on here. It's extremely
unlikely that eyeballs and other suchlike parts were ever used this
way. They don't grind well and can be seen in the grind and the lens
can be felt in the chewing. "Connective tissue" is very tough and
won't tenderize just because it's ground. Offal isn't used in burger
operations; those organs materially change the flavor of the meat.

Pinning CJD on fast food is a stretch particularly since they don't
    use nervous system tissue.

This sounds like more of that "4-legged KFC chicken" rumor stuff

Actually, there have been examples of prions being found in other than
just nervous system and offal tissues. The reality is that a lot of it
is speculative and difficult to confirm.

I got all the brains I need apparently - since I'm told I don't use them
    all. haha

Instead of saying "I have not ever seen for sale in this country", you
should say, "I have not ever seen for sale in my locality". Obviously, you
could not speak for what is sold in every city in the entire country.
