through it. Cop pulls out of a side street and chases me down.
I pulled up to an intersection, late at night, next to a catholic
university. I was slowing down to make the stop. When from up the hil, to
my left, a guy comes roaring through the intersection at a very high rate of
speed. I instinctively slammed on my brakes about a car length from the stop
line.
When the race car driver was a safe distance away, I rolled forward at a
very slow speed and turned up the street. A cop who was waiting across the
street (and ignoring our race car driver) came after me for failing to stop
at a red light before turning. I was incredulous. I asked why he did not go
after the local speed demon. He said he would not have been able to catch
him!
So the lesson was obvious. Go slow and careful and get busted. Drive like
hell, and get away with it.
I went to court and argued my case. Apparently, this judge has heard of this
cop before. He just shook his head and dismissed the ticket.
