  1. I built a new Cr-18 rear wheel still hangin from the ceiling with a
slight eggshape on the the first try. tis the season. Intention was to
report on the shims needed to get a 7 speed atb 14-32 to an 8 speed
14-32 plus harris 34 onto the 8/9 deore rear atb hub. We're nopw
halfway thru writing aprogram sorting this info out but can dafintly
perot that the suggestion to use NYLON SPACERS AT THE REAR is not in
    good taste.

We did stumble on the problem: the rear bumps on the atb are shorter
than the rear bolt lengths on the road cassettes. The bumps can be
filed and shortening the bumps then figures into the shim measures.

ever lose the locktite cap? evr lose a ... A coated paperclip shoved
in with the other end hooked over the nut box wall saves $5.

Commuter load dish the rim out to the chainstays? Check out the USS
and Staimnless 10mm washer thicknessess. Tilt and shim and run to the
    weakend.

Does your Finisline teflon grease smell funny? ~~~~(🙂!

The Conti TT test continu4s with two kore laid up flat in the ropot
cellar. The Conti's carcass responds to tuning thru air pressure. try
a few punds up and down with speed circles out in the parking lot to
    check the results.

Duct tape time dududhduhd a) tape the pumps shaft head to the pump
body for touring. saves lotsa teeeth gnashing. and for the miser!!
split the tape in half or custom as yawl unroll it. like who nees that
width right. Cool. now ya got 1200 feet.

Real Steel? Woolmort carries vacuum bagged flax seed with omega 3
minus mercury(but with dioxin) from Canada on the drug shelf near
glucosamine and snake oil. Slob linseed on the gunmetal blue pedal
shafts and dropouts and munch. TOTAL!!

Broke my first cable. flatout thru a 12 lane intersection. downwind
off course. Did yawl know the shim people engineered the deray to hold
steady when both screws are down on the lands? Amazing.

Examine chain grit post wash? seems the stuff changes with the seasons
and predicts when yawl shud check it again.

Spirng cnelaing? Someday ima gonna grid in 3-d like on a chess board
the stuff lying hidden in shop the. and write the locations down ina
book. this shd save two months every year and lead to eternal life.

  2. Butt Zit time!!
Beyond: Q1. "it doesn't work", A. its worn out, B. its badly adjusted,
    C. you broke it and Q2, "my lower back is killing me", is the question
    of BUTT ZITS!!!

We here at the BCL Test lab have found a primary answer:

THE HOSE!!! A strong stream of water rinsing anti-bacterial
liquid dish soap from the BUTT AND CROTCH AREA will prevent BUTT
    ZITS!!!

There is a secondary answer to the often posed question: "dear
Sheldon, I have TERMINAL BUTT ZITS!!! What can I do?" try a mirror if
you're a loner and soak them BUTT ZITS with H2O2 then coat with
antibiotic salve.H2O2 eats the pus off the ZITT and allows the salve
to approach your bacteria colony directly without wading thru the
    colony's excrement pile.

The winter rebuild here goes on uh let's see at 4-30-04 with: one
deranged BB, felt good pedaling but when one crank began to leave the
area we spun the unit with fingers and found it polishing the cups
with a fine silica compound. Then, travel thru the valley of death 16
lane intersection at speed with traffic and expletive deleted downwind
in a strong 25 knot blow, we shifted to the big ring and had the ditto
cable snap. This was closely followed in the same area with the rear
brake cable separating at the grip where the dia-compe folded over
several(8?) months ago during a sidewalk crash. The moral is we have
the parts on hand from winter parts mail odors.

The lab also notes that a recent winter heat rise from 65-70 degrees
to 85 degrees leaves the Finish Line CC chain unlubed halfway thru the
    week. Gone.
Not much dirt. Dirt same. Ugh Clean Chain once week. But the lube has
evaporated or sublimed. Check that out. Sneaks right up on yawl it
does smack dab in the middle of a 50 milker.

When we rebuilt the BB, we followed or tired to follow Brandt's advice
on pre load [see Jobst Brandt Frequently Asked Questions]. The preload
is a tad tighter than what I usually do but I have a Deore rear hub
now not an OLD Freewheel and adjusting feel is different.

I figured the pre load idea evolves as a machine made adjustment with
the preload's slight bearing rumble felt thru the fingers breaking
into a smooth run with all bearings [In Theory] in contact and
supportive with the bearings surfaces at 360 degrees. We donut have a
scatter diagram on this butbutbut so far this feels true as the BB and
rear hub do feel faster. I used 25 grade bearings from Harris Cyclery:
harder surfaces better able to withstand the pre load's abuse. This
adjustment seems a rally good idea for loaded commuting or touring
sans a phil wood hub as load unsupports the rig too quickly in a cone
    and cup system.

The Shimano BB has about 15,000 well maintained miles on it and looks
good, spindle centers well but needs that extra preload torque to
preload to unwoobbble and center. The 3S developed a small gully at
the outside bearing race so its on its way.

The BB frame threads need blue oem loctite having bend Hozan
    rethreaded.
I coat completely on the cup's threads. The CR side works loose over
5-6000 miles and comes off with the wrench. The other side needs heat
but torch heat to loosen doesn't reach the spindle seal,

In getting the unit to preload spec, I found that tightening to
bearing rumble then backing off to slightly too loose then working the
cup back and forth thru that range snowplows the Blue Locktite leaving
extra time to fiddle and narrow the subjective feel range down to what
you think is needed. Cooling the Blue probable helps.

The Lab issued a Sun Tan Oil Report: great lip balm. Factor!! Gotta
let it dry. No licking, no premature slobbering of Miracle XX Sonic
Speed Food. This is miles better than chapstick.

We have a Free Spirit freewheel 5-speed rear rim for a spare unit.
Amazing!! unreal bearing surface of UFO re-entry steel. And a terrific
    medicine ball.
The new 8 speed 14-32/34 is comletely adjustable to all conditions
after groaning along in 5 for two months.Unworn, unused and unwanted 5
speed spare rear assemblies may be bought cheap as a complete bike at
    the flea market.

there are no bike paths in our society: sidewalks, kids paths to
school, fire and emergency lanes and hurricane escape routes. However,
Florida has legislated bike lanes now!! Plans are afoot to connect the
terminus of the east coast bike route to Lake Okeechobee's Dike, pave
the road at the dike's top, then link this to the Key's Bridge highway
over the Sea to Key West. Spectacular.
    See the Florida Bicycle Association.

  4. BIG FEET? An idea surfaced!! watching the new nail grow on my big
toe-auto body fiberglass as a renewable source for bike shoe insoles.
Go for the bumper? See yawl there.
The pediatrician recommended: www.sofesole.com. And "motion control"
orthotics. I held a pair at $30 and perhaps backed by fiberglass?

Moor!Reported Finish Line CC chain lube evaporated over a week's time
and 100 plus miles with an heat increase from 70 to 90 plus degrees.
The evaporating component apparently carries or floats fine grit caws
when the stuff evaps fine grime sticks to the CR's surface.
Sticks-it's hard to wipe off. Check it out under a bright light. I
assume this occurs while riding and grinding.

Crawled under the Volvo and dragged the ROAD TOOL JUG out, uncapped
after a three month paint thinner soak and pulled out a nice l950's
derusted adjustable wrench, a cuticle scissors, a diagonal cutter and
put the universal socket joint back in for another soak keeping the
    adjustable block plane company.

Published a- DIY tire removal- post. Removal not ‘change' or maybe
once ‘exchange.' I cudn't shake the feeling that babies are changed,
light bulbs, and frogs but not tires.

Results 1 - 10 of about 1,300,000 for tire change
Results 1 - 10 of about 198,000 for tire removal with biketopia listed
    turd!!! Waytogo biketopia!!

Will Rodgers, a 1930's humorist tried jumpstarting his career by
crushing his head on an airplane cowl. This was a relatively effective
move on his part. Will once said" everyone is dumb. Different people
    are dumb in different ways."
Gotta ask the right question to get an adequate answer unless speaking
with someone who has actually thought about your problem. Like in the
    search box stupid.
Keeping this in mind I was pondering the search tire removal problem,
having searched myself, while cycling over to Woolmort when I came
upon a goat tethered on a canal levee about five feet below the road
    surface.
Florida is just hell on people who linger caws every "biting insect"
from a hundred yards walks flies crawls over for lunch. So I asked the
goat "How are the bugs down there?"
    And the goat said "Baaaaaad!!!!

Multiple listings. Animals are still smarter than Google's software.

The Cont TT 27x1-1/4" Test: the full carcass saved my skin maybe 11-12
times so far this year. Last, a failed transistion from the flat
sidewalk over a rolled asphalt lip to the road surface.
Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad angle. Front tire failed to grip then grabbed a
second time and up we went defying gravity and my bifocals.

The yearly maintenance or something like that goes on toward front
wheel bearings. Repacked the pulley wheels with boat trailer wheel
bearing grease, loctite the bolts back in matched off course to the
pulleys the bolts came out off. 5 pts for me. Score 3500 for mulligan,
1750 for me. Repacked the upper bolt drop hanger bushing. Exploded
diagram available a shimano's website. Amazing!! Try that for de
    Laycock.
This was a big deal. Progress. Clean and lube deray complete. Tape
body with electrical tape to keep dirt from the hinges. Repack pivot
    bolt, seals(2- 3?) and spring.
The repack's assembled in reverse odor facilitated by 1) a wrench for
the pivot bolt's inboard nut and 2) a washer of the pivot bolt's
diameter-measure before disassembly from the inboard side. The washer
gets an opening cut in a pivot bolt diameter chord soas the washer
slips past the bolt shiming the rig up while yawl deftly slip the
shimano pivot bolt(greased) clip back in. The washer and deray spring
are held down by the inboard pivot bolt nut. Remove nut before
    mounting. This is important.
The upper pivot bolt has a cavernous space for grease between the bolt
housing and the spring's inner retaining wall. The space was dry on my
deore deray. A wad of boat grease inthere wud probably seal out dirt
on the inboard side(after packing the seals) and cud use a channel to
the spring and front seal. Not included.
Consider screwing a turn into the chain adjuster screw before
    remounting.
Added a longer(2-2.5"😉 cable housing to the deray end (DIY cable
housing cutter) with a shimano cable stop on the chain stay-movable
for chain cleaning. The extra length makes cable tension/chain over
cluster movement more precise if not more effective. More points to
shimano. About 3000. at least. Outasight. Now if yawl wud be redundant
and make the cage outa Suntour's eternally malleable steel…

Several people recommended bearing grease like p.wood after I began
blowing the horn for boat trailer wheel bearing greases. The bearing
grease seems too light. It runs out then lacks body to resist
incoming (STP) dirt. Lose of pulley wheel material.
The boat wheel bearing grease holds for 300-400 miles here in sand
city with maybe 50-60 miles pedaling in light rain. The grease film
feels fairly clean at this point but the bearing grease leaves the
    area. Baaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

  5. g. thanks.

Perhaps I misunderstood something, always a danger I know.
The glass fibre reinforced resin made the too large bike shoes I bought
on ebay fit a little too perfectly. The available solvent has melted my
foot bath and the no-wax flooring. Even so I will not give up until the
    shoes are de Feated.

Edgar de Normanville and I were discussing your de Railleur maintenance
and we cannot for the life of me figure out why a thinking man such as
yourself is not using an internally geared hub.

Edgar also reminds you to check the fuse first and see his article on
    the DIY oil pressure gauge.

  9. BIG FEET PEDALS
i have an answer for the big foot problem.
and the answer is comprehensive-it clears the sinuses and deviates
    from accepted practice.

plywood! cut four u shapes 1' wider two inches longer than the bear
    traps
marked two sides for inside bolts and clamped together then drilled.
painted red to not look stupid, the pedal covers are large.
bolted and drilled one more hole just outside the traps outboard edge.

    outasight.

the course is ten miles upwind then repeat down. The upwind is 15 to
20 percent faster with less effort. the downwind is about the same:
    whatta drag.

the kicker. my hip hurts from a slight dislocation. the trip, a
necessary commute was thought to cripple but noooooooooo! the hip
    feels better!!
the hip is better! wider stance: i'm 6'4" over into the 99 percentile
for ergonomis if the pedal people work ergonomics into the product's
width relationship to the cyclist's physiogamy.

and my feet are aahhhh! happy feet.

the plan was to fashion metal extenders for the traps.the ply
temporary. but the ply absorbs and cushions.
this is sooo goood! i recommend playing with the installation just to
experiment and get a feel for always hillclimbing with exquisite
comfort. itsa production job 'cept for the paint: only takes an hour.

idea 1.5: touring chain cleaning. when the lube evaps in the heat on
day two, a wipe and relube gets added slip from running the overnmite
dried lube slightly crosschained then or in the morning. the rollers
and plates are canted and the dirt gets thrown out. left and right.

  10. BIG FOOT TOURING

to continue: the ply pedal cover is concept pursuable!
tape a cover onto the pedal surface, mount a hard lead on the sole and
in different conditions get individual tracings of where your shud mount
    the FROG!!
    or two FROGS.
    one flatland, one uphill
    with a spring mounted clip
    or gas shock...

  11. Butt Rash
several months ago while emboiled in a morel discussion comma we
suggested washoing the butt with dishawshing soap and a strong stream
of water from a hose for rinsing. The idea is that water running down
the body from a shower head does not effectively rinse leaving a film
of cebum and probably bacteria edible soap residue.
This works here. After hot weather commuting everyday-20 plus miles-NO
BUTT ZITS! whereass last year sans hose we did experience lumpy butt
zits: folliculitis. Also, we are washing with the hose immediately
    before riding.
The nose gets to be a naca duct for dirt after a month or so and then
when cleaning the ears, everyday to hear the triax or killer boat
trailer complete with four drunks just down from sheboygan-i found the
ears stopped up from naca blowin and overhawled with peroxide.

the pedals mentioned prior work just fine. gives another 40-50 degrees
spin without clips. and the hips are fluid. I feel my entire physique
improves with a wider stance and cushioned foot placement. The touring
industry may be in total error here foisting a tight foot stance into
    the market.

Try blue gator aid? gurglegurgle. most of this stuff has a
recognizable vegtable-mineral reference. the blue doesn't seem to
relate to anything growing out in the yard but tastes good out on the
road. i seem to be taking the empties along (filled with distilled h20
after overnights filled with a wee bit of isopropyl and h20 from the
superduper)and leaving the bike specific botttles behind.
