hmmmm...let's review what Janny..with NO actual experience contributes to the
above topic...as usual she doesn't read...or comprehend if she does read
Quoted message said:
this site discusses "constipation"...primarily in nursing home and elderly
folks (BTW Janny...even with constipation..the colon is shiny and pink)
it states "folks must be questioned about their use of supplements and
homeopathic remedies".....
now WHY is that ??
it states "chronic use of laxatives must be avoided"...
now WHY is that??
recommend diets high in fiber,,lots of fluids and exercise (if possible)....
laxatives ONLY as a last resort (stool softeners OK)
now WHERE have WE of EOM been saying that??
I loved the quote "2500 years ago Hippocrates said intestines become sluggish
with age"
firstly 2500 years ago not many folks LIVED to old age!!
secondly...the great H could only guess...no colonoscopies CT etc back then!!
Quoted message said:
ahhh...now from the expert Wolfe..
what is an "AC, PhD"...anyway???
his site contains those weird photos of grostesque colons...and mostly total
nonsense
Quoted message said:ttp://www.healthandage.com/Home/gm=0!gc=15!gid2=1801
ahhhh...data on diverticulosis
nothing new here...interesting that it states "80-85%" of diverticulosis NEVER
have symptoms...ie they are there..they cause no problems..there is NO need for
colonics..etc..
their stats ....30% of folks 50-70 year olds have tics...50% of those over 70..
I believe I said "about 50% of folks over 50"...sounds the same to me....
BTW the site has a huge innaccuracy...in the description of diverticulitis
they are describing peritonitis!!
hmm..careful getting info from sites that do not know the difference between
the two!!
Last site concerned colostomies for spinal cord injured folks???
and that had what to do with the topic??
give it up Janny

no such recognized degree as "colon therapist"....nor nutritional consultant..
"correspondence school" teach massage?? hmmm...now that is interesting...how
do you teach how to massage via correspondence
these kinds of "credentials" only prove my point...only the likes of Janny Drew

he has NO legitimate credentials..
I personally am supremely offended that such a person sells himself as an

around here takes about 100 hours...ie less than a month..
try again Jannie...

It appears that one can become a Certified Colon Therapist (sometimes
known as a Hydrotherapist) in the US by taking a 100 hour course over 8
days & passing some sort of a test. This course is given at various
locations in the US, but seems to eminate from Texas.

These are interesting.

"Complaints related to constipation account for over 2.5 million physician

Four hundred million dollars a year.
A lucrative industry.

It certainly is. And laxative abuse is one of the causes of
constipation.
People need to be educated about the normal frequency of bowel
movements which can be as few as 3 per week. Each person is different.
Sadly there are those who think they need to have a bowel movement
every day, abuse laxatives and make their problem much worse.

Indeed. Much of it is caused by side effects of medication. For
example Elavil is a major cause of constipation and bowels shutting
down especially in the elderly. Sadly there are those who take Elavil
to cover up the real problem. But we don't know anyone who does that
do we Jan??:-))

Indeed. Elavil can cause paralytic ileus (bowels shutting down). Lord
knows why anyone would want to take a drug that only covers up the
real problem. I think that they should find the root of the problem
and not just cover it up. I am sure Jan Drew agrees with me.

Four hundred million dollars a year.
A lucrative industry. At least 75 percent of elderly hospitalized patients and nursing home
residents use laxatives for bowel regulation.4Constipation is more than an annoying problem. Persons with chronic
constipation have been shown to have a diminished perception of their
quality of life.7 Fecal impaction, incontinence, colonic dilatation and
even perforation can complicate constipation. In addition, constipation
may signal more troubling underlying problems, such as colonic
dysmotility or mass lesions.
And yet despite all that, there are posters here who continue to assert
that "most people" have lovely sparkly clean colons, cleaner than a new
baby's freshly washed bum, and have no need of being washed clean by
irrigation.
Given that some of those people who have had long term chronic constipation
are in effect living with their own personal toxic waste dump, how can they
be so sure that it is not connected with other diseases the person may have
also, not excluding cancer and not excluding dementia.
And with the tax profits from the four hundred million dollar industry
(laxatives alone, and that was in '93, bet it's more than that now!)- it is
not as if they can't afford, from that, to do studies on possible
preventative and alleviation methods such as c. irrigation, which is simply
washing out the colon.

Quoted message said:Stimulant laxatives are by far the most frequently ****prescribed**** and
purchased class of laxatives. These agents promote stooling by altering
electrolyte transport in the intestinal mucosa and increasing colonic
motility. With chronic use, however, stimulant laxatives may damage the
myenteric plexus and result in colonic dysmotility. As previously noted,
anthraquinone derivatives such as senna, cascara and aloe may cause
colonic mucosal pigmentation and are thought to directly damage the
myenteric nerves. Phenolphthalein, a common ingredient in some
over-the-counter laxative preparations, has been associated with
photosensitivity, dermatitis and the Stevens-Johnson syndromeJan

and yet Toby and Jan compare these people with truly educated medical people
who have "actual experience" in examing with scopes thousands upon thousands of
colons (the vast majority of which ARE shiny pink)...
it is truly scarey to think of putting ones colon "health" into the
hands..literally..of a person with 100 measly hours of "training"..
yikes...the guy who changes your car's oil has more training than that...
I ask ya...do you think such a person would be able to recognize a colon
perforation if his "procedure" caused one??? or what to do about it ??
why not let a toddler do your next perm...about the same level of competence
but hey....those of YOU obessessed with the "putrid toxic gunk" in your
colons...go at it...
please stay out of my ER if and when you get into trouble

Indeed, and constipation from laxative abuse leads to the use of even
more laxatives and enemas to try to correct the problem--a vicious cycle.

Yes, and what of those who abuse laxatives, Coffee Enemas, and take Elavil and

I wondered about this "100 hours over 8 days." That'd be about 12
hours of instruction per day. That's an awfully long day, and I have
trouble believing that most people could maintain their concentration
over such an extended stint.

Hmm, well,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I have said that for a long time!!!
Do tell us David, WHY the medical profession has no limit on hours worked?????
Do these over worked medical people maintain their concentration in a
hospital???
YOU DON'T SUPPOSE THAT'S WHY WE HAVE SO MANY NEEDLESS DEATHS AND MISTAKES DO
YOU????????????????????????
Isn't it strange David only notices this in an alternative setting???????????

Even considering that the "academic" hour is 50 minutes as opposed to 60,
that's about 85 hours in 8 days. That's pretty grueling.
