In my gastronomic experiences, if you adulterate anything with
"garlic", including "life forces", all you get is garlic - I repeat
garlic, which contaminates the breath, exudes from the skin, makes the
toilet an unpleasant place to be and condemns farting from a high art
form to public disdain and humiliation!!

I was born and raised in the New York metropolitan area, in an area
populated by Jews, Irish, and Italians. Italian cooking, restaurants,
pizza joints (where they speak Italian, not Mexican, and where the flies
add spice to the calzones). I love garlic. Garlic is one one the
    healthiest, most healthful, spices.

A Brit telling the Italians how to cook? Now THAT is silly.

Well, Chucky always did have problems with style and class. Leave him with
his blood pudding and fat fried foods. I am certain that anything with
flavor or taste would be objectionable to a troll brit.

Exactly!! Nobody never gained *anything* from refined sugar except
perhaps weight and diabetes. What benefit does refined white sugar
provide other then a few calories? It has NO NUTRITIONAL VALUE.

Debate *that*. Come on...I *dare* you. :-)

What is the special evil that changes a sugar from "good" to "bad" by
    "refining"?

The fact that it is refined and has no nutritional value or benefit.

That is something of an overstatement David (you, not him - who I
miss), I suggested nothing at all that could be construed as "telling
    the Italians how to cook".

What I did suggest was that "garlic" is probably the most
contemporarily overused spice, which leaves a whole host of casualties
in its wake. In 'essence' it stinks in its repercussions.

It is completely anti-social and the reek of the breath of someone who
has been over-indulging during the weekend, particularly in the gym on
a Monday morning (ugh!), is positively nauseating!!

I respect your right to eat just what you damn well please, but please
don't break wind on the elliptical machine next to mine, and expect to
escape my Monday morning withering look, twitching nostrils and
    nauseous belching!!

Have a great weekend David - you know I am!! ;o)

That is such a shame Lee, I almost thought you had given up this sort
    of silliness.

Needless to say, the humorous exchanges between myself and Cohen have
    gone completely over your head.

It provides glucose for energy and insulin release for muscle protein
synthesis. It works just fine with whey protein for timed nutrition.

Medline it is. I'm sure you'll recognize these words, but fail to
understand (hey, you won't disagree with that statement, will you?) why
you'd question an anti refined sugar stance.

    Quoted message said:

    From http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/002469.htm

Refined sugars provide calories, but lack vitamins, minerals, and
fiber. Such simple sugars are often called "empty calories" and can
lead to weight gain. Also, many refined foods, such as white flour,
sugar, and polished rice, lack B vitamins and other important nutrients
unless they are marked "enriched." It is healthiest to obtain
carbohydrates, vitamins, and other nutrients in as natural a form as
possible -- for example, from fruit instead of table sugar.

All true, which is a far cry from "white death" and used in moderation,
sucrose will do you no harm at all.

Should we start with the fact that his sugar screed is nearly 50 years
old, and that he died 13 years ago at the age of 92?

When you first saw that photo John Williams, which was taken very
early in my career, much to my surprise you sent a message to me via
the Group which said: "Good photograph"!!

It's one of my family's favourites also, and I'm quite proud of it; it
is a very elite branch and not many people get to qualify as a Staff
Physical Training Officer in the Royal Navy. I was the only one that
    year!!

It is in fact about thirty years old, and you know that you have in
your treasured collection of various photographs of me, some which are
very much up to date, and remember John Williams, I'm only a few years
    older than you!! ;o)

I think I certainly look a trifle better than this twee old chap:

garlic, which contaminates the breath, exudes from the skin, makes the

As a general rule of thumb, food without garlic isn't worth

There's the 'hint' of garlic which can enhance a dish, or the eating
of it by the clove as if an entrée. The former is more than
acceptable, the latter a complete and utter social gaffe.
