  1. Many people here use the name "vegan" to mean strict vegetarian.
"vegetarian" is used to denote backsliders who eat a bit of
    dairy, eggs or fish.

I'm sure every local dialect has their own definitions, though.
As far as I'm concerned, vegan plus 5% fish equals healthy!

And don't forget the B-12 supplement.

  3. Since "vegan diet" can mean so many things, it is hardly worth
discussing on a science NG. If you want to specify what molecules you
think are "beneficial," I'd be curious to know how you arrived at your
ideas, but otherwise, this is what leads to the shell games being
played by the "experts," who rail against "saturated fat" without
offering a consistent scientific definition for that phrase.

Isn't that like being virgin plus having sex on Sundays...? :-)

  6. After being vegan for over ten years, began taking fish oil pills and
eating a little ground flax. It almost killed me. It is a terrible
diet. I had severe osteoporosis, tendonosis, fungal infections, yeast
infections, but worst of all, I lost my ability to digest food. There
are many anti-nutritive elements to this kind of diet, though again,
you need to be specific about what you are eating.

It also profoundly affected your cognitive capacity.
