No. I think they would equally be safe if exercise treadmill is used instead of persantine during PET study.Are stress PET studies done without stress agents,like persantine,adenosine,and dobutamie?Thanks

The risk of a "myocardial event" using pharmacological stress is essentially the same as the risk during a treadmill.
I don't know if PET is done with the treadmill, but I don't think so.
If the risk of myocardial event is the same with both tests why most labs prefer patients using exercise treadmill (if they can walk) instead of persantine?Thanks

Persantine costs more. Plus the treadmill is a natural exercise, it gives you an idea of the patient's overall condition. There are extra bits of information you pick up on a treadmill, such as the blood pressure response and recovery rate after exercise.
What about side effects of persantine.I know a friend who almost died as result of persantine during the scan.He had unbearable chest pain and sob as result of injected persantine that they had to do invasive cardiac catheterization which came out as a negative.I would certainly not need unnecessary invasive catheterization test as result of persantine. 1) If a person wants to rule out all old small heart attacks what iv drugs (isotopes) have to be injected during PET or SPECT scans? 2) If a person wants to rule out CAD what drugs(isotopes) have to be injected during PET or SPECT scans? 3) In ruling out all old small heart attacks are both rest and stress parts of the test indicated or only rest is indicated?Thanks
