  1. Beth,

Congrats to your success but may I ask what is "piscedarian"? I have googled it
    and found nothing! NOTHING!!!!

Please tell and many thanks in advance.

I belong to a group we call the Romance Exchange. We get together
every couple of months to swap books (we started with Regency
romances, but now it's all sorts of books) and eat afternoon tea.
This time it was my turn to host. This is made challenging by the
fact that of the six members, there's me who's doing low-carb, one
member started as a vegan but discovered she can eat fish and sheep
cheese or goat cheese, one is a piscedarian, one can't eat walnuts or
pecans and is lactose intolerant, and two (thankfully) who don't have
    any dietary issues.

    The menu was as follows.

    SAVORIES:
Smoked salmon and Asian cucumber salad rolls
    Crab-stuffed mushrooms
Filo shells with artichoke-mushroom-garlic-goat cheese filling (I
invented this to use up the mushroom stems from the stuffed mushrooms
Scones (served with butter and Devon cream and various jams)
Bread, vegetables, and spreads for sandwiches

    SWEETS:
    Hazelnut torte (with Splenda)
    Ginger crème brulee (with Splenda)
    Meringue cookies with chocolate chips
    Chocolate chip twists (vegan, store-bought)
    Ginger cookies (vegan, store-bought)

I didn't eat any of the bread, and my one splurge was a scone with jam
and Devon cream. The salmon rolls, hazelnut torte, and ginger creme
brulee were from recipes posted to this group (thanks!), and turned
    out quite well.

The afternoon was a great success, and my weight stayed constant for
the next two mornings, so I didn't even put on any additional water
weight. In fact, I lost two pounds last week, leaving me only four
    pounds from my preliminary goal.

Fish isn't meat? I've never understood why it's ok to eat fish but not to
eat chicken or cattle or pork.

Shhhh, you'll stir up the whole "I'm more veggie than you" debate.
    <G>
Vegetarians have themselves subcategorized in such a way that the pool
of people who can call themselves vegetarians ends up being just about
everybody if you add enough prefixes. Vegans don't eat anything that
ever had a heartbeat or came from an animal (eggs, milk) and the
purists don't even eat anything that came as the result of animal or
    insect labor - like honey.
Everybody else is more lenient and the degree of leniency varies
proportionately to the number of prefixes you see in front of the
"vegetarian" part of the label:ovo-, lacto-, pesce-, pollo-, etc.
    Me? I'm a ovo-lacto-pesce-pollo-carni-vegetarian. <G>

This is true -- anyone can be a vegetarian, with the right prefixes! My
best friend's wife was a "vegetarian" who ate seafood. I think she bought
into vegetarianism because of its "healthy" overtones and avoidance of
"evil" saturated fat. Now, while I think this is something that's not been
proven, at least she had some rational reason for her diet. It's when she
also said that she didn't like to have the pain of animal death where I
became confused: it's ok to eat fish, which are obviously killed, yet not
to eat beef? It's ok to eat lobster (boiled alive), yet not eat something
that's throat has been slit? To me, there's not much difference. I also
don't like that I'm killing animals, but I don't see a choice -- low fat
puts my blood sugar through the roof, and soy products just don't seem
    right.

Hey "pescetarian" is a BIG leap in honesty. It used to make me cringe to
see people who wanted to attach the word "vegetarian" to their lifestyle
label by saying "I am a pesce-vegetarian" In that case, EVERYONE is a
    vegetarian LOL
