You must have a bit of disposable income! I went into a not so LBS on
Saturday thinking I could do with a new pair of track mitts. Too early
in the season for any to be on display, but was handed a white leather
Rapha pair. £80!. I declined the offer.

I've diverted my old cigarette budget (around a fiver a day when I
finished Allen Carr's meisterwerk) towards cycling and have always
preferred to have a few very good items to a lot of mediocre ones. [1]
Rapha's stuff looks and feels as though it is designed to last. It helps
to make careful purchases during their sales.

Those are somewhat costly. I quite fancy saving up for some of their

My wife got me a Rapha winter hat a year ago but within a few weeks the
stitching at one side of the peak had fallen apart. Not worth sending
back as my wife could fix it. A few weeks later the other side had gone.
After a second repair it has been fine but I don't think it was worth
what was paid.

Maybe I was just unlucky.

Ah, my ex-habit was at about half that rate before I stopped (nearly 3
years now). I managed it by paying someone to stick pins into me and
joining AS3.

I haven't kept a pot of what I would have spent, to spend on nice
things. It has just been sucked into the general maelstrom that is the
family finance.
