It's concrete, but it never felt close to 25 degree banking, at least
not as compared to Indianapolis or Lehigh Valley Velodrome, which IIRC
are supposed to be about 28 degrees.

Ya, in my somewhat limited track experience, I thought of Marymoor as
very roadie friendly. It's a long way around, not banked much...points
races were like cornerless crits, at least compared to Encino or
something. But folks are friendly, the track is (well, was) open for
riding a lot. Pleasant location...

Cement track, recently re-surfaced with some sort of sealant that seems
to make it faster. I'm not sure if it's that I've gotten worse on the
track, or that the track surface is faster - but I had to gear up abour
3 inches this season to stay with the field. Purely based on feel - I
think the coating is smoother and faster.

The rider - I think - is probably local Cat 3 legend/Spin Class teacher
to the stars/Frequent REI catalog model Ed Ewing. He rides for
Benaroya Research Institute this year - good rider and one of the nicer
guys in the Seattle "peloton". I'll have to ask him to confirm it, but
I saw the catalog and I'm pretty sure it's him.

According to legend, the dimensions of the track were chosen to allow
the infield to be used as a soccer field in case this cycling thing
didn't really take off.
Ed has/had teammates who work/worked for Darby/Raleigh.

In Tom's defense, noting that the man is black (1) helps narrow down
who he might be, and (2) draws attention to the fact that there is not
a high proportion of black cyclists, which may be a topic in its own
right.

I had the same initial reaction to "black cyclist." We wouldn't make
special mention of a "white cyclist" (though, in a different context,
maybe a "white NBA player"😉, but let's not overreact, especially given
this was an attempt to identify the man.

Over on bike forums there's been a discussion about the paucity of
black racers/riders. Living near Oakland and since a large proportion
of the Yellowjackets are black I know that there are a lot of black
riders around, I just can't figure out why we don't see them more
often.

I wonder if it is a culture thing among cyclists, but certainly any
advertisement of black riders HAS to be good for the sport.

I took a lot of pictures this summer of the black rack rider at Marymoor.
Not sure if it is mine in the catalog, but I know they have some of my
stuff. Why do you want to know who it is?
