You're not allowed to ride in Canberra at this time of year without
Mont shell-vest, either Activent or Hydronaught. Shell vests rock fo
temp control

Mont also do a neat shell jacket - the sting from memory. You'll need t
look in a good outdoors store to find them though. The Netti is probabl
just fine

Look for a snug (but not tight) collar, long sleeves (that reach you
gloves when your arms are stretched in front of you, thumb loop
(personal pref), enough length at the back (not too much at the front)
and pit zips under the arms (so you can dump heat, or zip up snug whe
you need to)

mmmmmmmmmmm Windvest. For those on a reduced budget, Target have some
reasonably snug vests for $20 which is a lot cheaper than any of the
cycling ones. Biggest problem I have with it is my back gets too hot but
I might have to get a little creative to fix that.

I got a SCODY vest at Mooloolaba tri for about $25. It's fully windproof
but the back is mesh. Never gets too hot but keeps you oh so warm in the
rain - I rode 4 hrs in the rain in it (I know, what was I thinking) and
eventually soaked through but didn't get cold.

Triathlons are a great place to pick up bargains, also got arm warmers
for $10.

Isn't Entrant "water resistant"? ie good for shorter rides only, but
more breathable. Good for a race or commute but not touring.
Not that any raincoat breathes significantly compared
to the sweat a cyclist can put out.

A raincoat makes a good windblocker. I use a fleece vest if its really cold.

I have had a Mountain Design Tour de Force jacket for 4 years now and i
has justified its 450 dollar price tag. Have used it for 8 hours a da
couriering over that time and have remained dry at all times. I recko
it still has another 4 years in it as it is washable and every year
respray it with goretex spray and im sweet. Thats about 55 bucks a yea
for a jacket. well worth it

I have used a Netti Entrant jacket for 8 years and it is not fully breathable but does
provide excellent protection from rain and wind. I suppose you have to compromise between
weather protection and sweating underneath. Ideally, do what I do, when the rain stops and
it's not too cold, roll up the jacket and stuff it into your back pocket.

For the Netti Jacket I reckon that's as good a price as you will get (having
shopped around). It is a good jacket with the option of zip off sleeves, I
am still looking, however, I may go with a GoreTex material or similar (more
expensive).

jersey......Hell yeah.

I've found the trick with rain is not so much keeping dry; that's pretty
much impossible 'cause you get wet with sweat anyway, even with
breathable waterproofs; but to proof yourself against the wind. It's
the wind that gets you every time, eliminate that and you'll be nice and
toasty.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to get any more mileage out of this shirt
in Aus though.

The best waterproof I've used, and still use, is the Helly Tech Helly
Hanson. It's pretty much 100% breathable.
