If it is not too late....buy some "Body Glide". They might have it at the marathon expo. I carry mine with in a waist bag along with some gu and some succeed tabs. The Body Glide is much better and longer lasting than vaseline.

I am worried about chafing in my thighs. I'm pretty stocky, and the last 18 miler I ran I had scabs after the run. It was hurting on the last few miles, definitely put a damper on the run.
I think I've got the hydration thing figured out, didn't have any problems on a 20 mile nor on an 18 mile run.

Do they allow you to wear a waist pack during the run?

Sure they do. You'll see people carrying all sorts of things.
You do know every post you put up here gets archived? Those cute lilttle words mean nothing. Google yourself and see.
Well, I checked on Google, and the only posts there were ones I forgot to x-no-archive or didn't write it out properly. I know, my posts will still show in archived responses to me, and that there are servers out there who ignore it. So I make my profile slightly smaller. And the problem with this is...?

OK, I'm doing my first marathon on Sunday. I started training in May. There is no rain in Sacramento from March - October, and it's warm to ungodly hot during that time too.
Just looked at the forecast, and it's supposed to rain and be in the low 50's on Sunday. Any stories on running in the rain - does it affect your run very much?
You might consider carrying along an extra pair of socks to change into halfway. One negative effect of rain is the increased chance of blisters when your socks get wet.
As a precaution, I would also apply lots of petroleum jelly around the toes before the race.

I had a neighbor tell me about the petroleum on the toes. Does that help a whole lot? seems messy.

Yes it helps a lot. What you may call messy is preventing blisters and it works in any conditions not just rain. A liberasl coating will do, not the entire jar. 😉

Yes it does. Especially in those kind of conditions.
