All kidding aside, the Roll interview really give an interesting insight
into the psychology of the cycling insider. Roll reminded me of Dickey V.
denying for years that he was a doper only to say that he was but he really
wasn't because everyone else did it and if you don't test positive you're
clean. He's totally bought into the Lance Armstrong theory of Anglo-French
relations.

You're absolutely wrong about here.

Bob Roll's theory of French Psychology pre-dates the LA theory by at
least a decade. Ever hear him say "Toor Day Frantz?" Know why he does
it? The LA theory is a mere reformulation of that.

Bob Roll didn't buy into LA's theory, LA bought Roll's.

Bob was there before they took Lance's training wheels off. Back when there'd
be maybe three English speakers in a race, maybe.

Besides, I don't know if Bob "buys in to" anybody's theories. He seems pretty
well settled on his own ideas about things. His outlook on doping in the sport
sounds very much like that of anyone who's been following it or been a part of
it since before the days of clicky shifters.

I get the impression that if Bob had Lance's legs or freak metabolism the French
would REALLY hate him. He'd see to it.

I would be very much surprised if anti-dopingers tests are never bending the
rules, but the main motive behind it won't be the nationality of the
athlete. but euros or dollars. After all, when a lot of money is at stake
corruption is almost unavoidable. As ex-rider Jean-Christophe Currit once
revealed, in his days there were always some physicians willing to cover up
a positive test in exchange for a bribe of $ 6,000 to $ 10,000. That was
10-12 years ago and right now it will be much more. Perhaps if Landis had
been French, he would have known better how to make a deal ...
