I wondered if people had raced at all as amateurs in Italy. andbethere.commy first race on continent.htmlOpen ↗ here's a report of my first one which was today! Was real good fun, though all seems a lot more chaotic than BC races, and as far as I can see there's no real categorisation system for riders. Anyone experienced different?

Nice one Ruari.I read your blog and well done as regards the result in Sicily. OK they were handing out lots of trophies but you must have done enough to get a pot.
I never raced in Italy but I've ridden throughout Sicily and it is a beautiful part of the world.
You're spot on about the Italians protecting their legs.
On one spin near Catania, it was close to 25 Celsius. Us Irish lads were pedalling away in our shorts when the local team sped by us all wearing leggings! -
Cheers! Yeah there really is some great cycling out here, and the island is small enough that you can see a lot of it just travelling by bike.
Yeah they seem to religiously avoid shorts until it gets over about 30!
I'll keep this updated on any more racing I do 🙂 -

Thanks Ruairi. I look forward to reading your updates. -
On Sunday, after a 2 week break, I did my second race in Sicily - flatish course this time in Palermo. Here's my report on it: andbethere.commy second race out in sicily.htmlOpen ↗. Unfortunately there was no trophy this time, but it's all a learning experience...I've never heard so many people shouting absolute nonsense at once as these experiences in southern Italian peletons! Crazy stuff! Unfortunately the same former doping pro who won last time cleaned up once again!
Let me know any feedback 🙂, and limerickman, thanks a lot for your interest! -
And here's number 3 🙂 andbethere.commy third sicilian crit race.htmlOpen ↗
