  1. Hi, all

My small company, ElevenGear, has recently put out a new product--a
windbreaker created entirely of your own race numbers. Originally it's
targeted toward cyclists (the whole site is in fact) but I thought
that the running community may find it interesting. The direct link
    for the item is: http://www.11gear.us/11g.html

I'm curious as to your thoughts whether runners like yourselves might
find this an interesting item (each sport of course has it's distinct
fashion aesthetic). If so I'll spend more time directing the running
community directly. Apologies ahead of time for the commercial nature
of this post. I'm calling it informal research.

    Best,
    -Rick

It's not for me, but I speak only for myself. Maybe for only one of
    my personalities at that.

But what I really want to know is, are you going to craft race number
bikinis and speedos for the swim community?

P.S. There are a number of online running communities each with its
own sensibility or range of sensibilities. You might also try places
like the Runner's World forum and coolrunning.com. I'll tell you
right now, you'll receive only mean-spirited ridicule on letsrun.com.

  4. Thanks for the comments Charlie

Race number one piece for the tri gals, speedos for the gents. There's
a thought! You sure would need fewer numbers to pull that off.

Just when we thought runners couldn't get anymore gay...

You can save money Chuck, all you need is the period instead of whole
letters, and you're private are is covered!

Gay? Gay as in a pejorative? Man, saying stuff like that is so '80s.

We thought it would appeal to those who like to "reduce, re-use,
    recycle"

Anyway thanks for your comments, I guess.

Funny how some neighborhoods get a reputation. 😉

And, yes, the composition of each sub-forum within the main (like RW
beginners vs RW L&O) will be very different.

Rick, one thing to consider is most runners don't dress as gaudily (?)
as cyclists or nordic skiers or race car drivers. Also, not sure if the
material somehow gets softer so it hugs body better, but tyvek strikes
me as something that would be rather stiff and noisy to run in. I can
just imagine trying to hear bears in the woods or the noise in 30mph
wind. Quiet shells are hard to find. For me, it would need at least one
pocket and preferably a hood, but many runners are the other way.

I have heard of tyvek gear being in goody bags at one race - rain gear,
    maybe iirc?

Oh, and I bet half my races don't even use bibs, so I wouldn't have
enough to make anything, except maybe shorts.😉 I also have a strong
preference for close-out sales at sierratradingpost.com or wherever
where I can get full-featured shells in $30-$70 range.

Yea, at least 2 hoods - one for each head.😉 And some might not want a
hood or pocket, judging from how many runners' shells come without them.
But that's why I (and many trail runners) buy gear in outdoor stores and
    not running stores.

One for each personality with CP. 😉

And yes, I find the gaudy jacket more for Nascar or Biking than
running. I hope running garb continues to massage only colors and never
stoops to that smeared text look be it race numbers, bowling scores.....

I would also bet the excess numbers while cute, would be completely
distracting for those races that log your bib numbers at aid stations.
Looks like one or all of the Rorschach inkblots.

As a cyclist, I HAVE TO stand out. Because I can't trust drivers to see me
and safely go around me. So I dress gaudily because it's a safety issue.
As a runner, I'm facing traffic (or bears!), so I don't need to be colorful
and "showy." For that reason, I'd never wear a race number jacket to run
    in.

I like your jerseys- esp. the poseur one. But they're way too expensive for
me. Like most of the people I know, I blew a huge amount of money on the
bike and still buy expensive running shoes, but I buy sale and closet
    apparel.

You might want to target first time marathoners who would like to
commemorate their achievement. Instead of making a shirt with all the
race numbers, offer to incorporate that one race number into a shirt.
While you're at it, decrease the price since it's only one bib 🙂

Also, consider making a hat or bandanna or something which might be
less loud than a whole shirt made of race bibs.

    Hi, Janes

Good ideas, all. First a misconception that I want to clear up though
and that is that the windbreaker's purpose was not really so much a
garment that one uses running (or heaven forbid racing, with all the
numbers adding to the confusion!), but rather more like what you would
wear when *not* working out, something you would wear to the carbo-
load the night before or to the marathon sign-in, like that. A
conversation starter, definitely a custom article, a one-off. So
thanks all for the feedback, I think we have to do a better job of
    getting that across.

I could only imagine how cool one of these would look if it was made
out of Boston Marathon numbers, or Tour de France numbers etc. Tyvek
as bandana wouldn't work as the material sheds-- and doesn't absorb--
    water & sweat.
But the idea of showcasing one number in a t-shirt is a good idea.
'Cause your race number can really represent your hard work and
accomplishment, and the thing so frequently just falls into the
    circular file.

    Thanks again,

    -Rick

No one in their right mind would want to have sex with you. Don't
    flatter yourself.

That's $265 for a brief swagger. For that amount of money I would
prefer something I can use while running.

I'd just as soon wear the shirt from the race if one is looking to pump
up one's ego or simply brag. I can remember some years back when I took
up mountain biking to cross train trying to find a damn biking shirt
with the pouches WITHOUT any words. I finally found solid colors in LL
Bean. I guess I'm not one of your customers. The good news, bikers
love that external fanfare. Good luck...
