Aside from the asthetic reasons, I'd way rather run a threadless stem/headset because you can make adjustments with a regular allen wrench. I haven't taken those ungodly, giant headset wrenches out of the toolbox in a LONG time!

and you can put them ( allen keys ) in your pocket with a lot more ease as well .
and change the stem without replacing the tape .
