Quill Stem with New Easton EC90 bar?

For a definitive answer, just call Easton at 1-800-991-0070. I have
found their phone tech support to be excellent. I have that same
bar and when my postman delivered it, he thought the box was empty.

Peter Chisholm answered a similar question for someone else in another post.
Basically he said don't use a single bolt stem (a stem that is 'closed' and
uses a single bolt for tightening) as the hole for the bar goes oval when
the bolt is tighted and can partially crush the carbon bar in the process.
If you use a quill stem, it should be one with a removable faceplate. As a
temporary measure you could buy a stem column adapter, it allows you to use
a threadless stem on a threaded fork Nitto, Profile and Zoom make them, not
expensive.

I'm pretty sure the bar has no idea (nor does it care) what's happening
90-150mm away at the stem to fork interface. The bar clamp style used
is more likely to be an issue, but even that I'd doubt to be an issue.

One thing I'd consider - many companies also sell threadless
converters:

This way, you can just buy one stem (assuming you don't yet have one)
and can just swap in a threadless stem when the time comes.

I wonder why they don't put a piece of wood into the clamping area of
a CF bar. I'm told that in early days, they did that with the steerer
tube on forks so that when they failed, you had a chance to save
yourself.

How would you get it into the bar? I would only be possible with a straight
bar. Besides anyone using a EC90 is concerned about weight adding the wood
would defeat the purpose of the bar, But this is a good idea for steering
columns.

I called them and spoke with Scott Vogelman. Answer: 2 bolt quill
stem:OK. 1 bolt: not OK.

You can use a 26mm stem but it MUST have a faceplatre. If you use a non
face plate stem of any type, you will crack the handlebar.

Threadless or not is not the issue, faceplate or not is.
