  1. I'm curious if anybody else has anything like this happen to them:

I take one daily insulin shot with a Novo pen, using a
    *very* fine needle ...

Every now and then, when the needle goes in it 's almost as
if there's a tough "rind" a millimetre or so under the skin,
extending perhaps another couple millimetres ... and a very
definite "got through the thick stuff" sensation as the
needle passes through whatever it is ... it almost seems to
"pop" as it gets through -- (I don't know how else to
describe it - thats the best I can do)

It comes and goes ... might happen for a week, then not for
a month, or sometimes for one day, then not for a week ....

Of course it never happens when I'm due to see any doctor,
so I always forget to ask about it ... <sigh>

It's possible that you're developing a little scar tissue at
those sites. I know I get 'em if I leather an area too much)
What we (all) SHOULD do is rotate our injection sites a LOT.
I use all the "middle bit" from belly button to as fas as I
can reach behind me, I use my thighs, both inner and outer,
although the docs get totally freaked when they find out I
use my inner thighs:-))) and very occasionally, by bowtox.

I think you should write things down like that, then take
the scribings with you when you see quaklet. It's what I do
    for exactly the same reason.

  3. I get that as well. Like Beav, I've always assumed it is a
little scar tissue. It's kind of freaky.

    Freaky ??? FREAKY ????

That doesn't even begin to describe what I was thinking the
first time it happened - Twilight Zone would have been more
    like it ...

I did ask "my" local pharmacist about it (they run a small
clinic for day to day things like BP and flu-shots and such)
and oddly enough he says that sometimes they have something
like this happen more or less at random .... and I presume
    it's people who aren't pin-cushions .. ...

That's a problem Hairy, and one we've all probably had or
got. I can inject a LOT more easily into my legs than
anywhere else, but if I do, I know I'll suffer eventually,
so I "force" myself to use a wide area of leg and
midsection. I couldn't shoot myself in the [censored] to save me
    life though:-)

Make yourself inject at different sites. It's really no
harder than giving yourself that first shot (except in the
    [censored] of course:-))

Like me, you forget:-) I've got my MOT at 2:00pm tomorrow so
I should've had MY list ready, but I've not done it yet and
by tomorrow, I'll have forgotten again. Thankfully I've no
    real issues to ask about.

Haven't you got a monitoring diary? There's always some
space in those for notes/questions and what have you.

  9. Hairy...when you do inject those places are you seeing any
difference in your bg's on that day. I had millions of areas
like that when I was on MDI (Type I) and had some other
problems too. I could have a big problem one day with the
rate of absorbion, and none the next. I used to only inject
into thighs, and arms (when I was a kid), but got alot of
areas that were so tough, and then into atrophy that I had
to go to the stomach area (it took me years to get to that
point..stomach was not a place I thought I wanted to
inject)! I now have a pump (for other reasons than just the
tough spots) but it has helped alot with the area that were
so tough and I get great absorbtion. Rotate is the name of
    the game...Hope this helps....Mic

    Always, be, and stay AWARE!

Not particularly - if anything I'm seeing a gradual
improvement all the time ....to the point where my "horrible-
highs" are now about the same as what I would once have
considered a reasonable average, and the mid-morning peaks
have all but disappeared ... In fact it's getting to the
point where my fastings are getting too low in the mornings
    - something I once thought I'd never see ... at this rate
it's going to need some adjustments in meds soon ... either
    the insulin or the tablets.

And make no mistake, 2 years ago my numbers were *BAD* after
years of not managing them properly ... of course losing the
toe did wonders for my concentration ....

I'm fortunate that I only have to inject once a day so I'm
not hammering any spot too much ....

I'm not sure that anything is getting in the way of
absorbtion - the needle definitely passes *through* whatever
it is, and then slides easily the remaining millimetres ...

    Quoted message said:

    the game...Hope this helps....Mic

Oh it all does .... as always - other people's experiences
often put a new perspective on something in my world ... and
it's always reassuring to find that others have had the same
    things happen to them.

It was this NG where I learned to pick and choose my foods -
it especially helped when I learned that different foods
have totally different effects of different people - so
different from the "standard" way of looking at things ...
    *especially* that <expletive
    deleted> "exchange" system ..... Bah Humbug !!!!

These days I eat more or less what I want, when I want,
except that my palate has now been "retrained" into a more
suitable selection of foods, so most of the time I no longer
actually want the things I shouldn't really eat ... Works
for me .... most of the time :-))
