Hello, all. I have recently been doing sets of preacher curls on a
Strive Machine in my gym which you place the weights in 3 different
positions to isolate different groups of muscles in the bicep. This
machine is great, terrific pump, especially on the 3rd set. I have been
experimenting with keeping my thumbs behind the bar as I do the reps
since I've heard it isolates the biceps more when the pinky is closer
to the body. I would imagine the same procedure could be used with
dumbell curls. Does anyone agree with this and implement this method?
Thanks!

Thanks! You're doing it wrong. You should be in the squat rack with a barbell
on your back.HTH

Thanks!By the way, have you looked up the thread on "5 exercises"? Over and
over again the regulars, the people who have been weightlifting for
years and years, choose compound exercises, not isolation exercises.
None of them, not one, picked bicep work. You'd do well to emulate their lists. Good luck with the Shania exercise.

I've found I get _plenty_ of arm work doing compound work. ;-)
Especially back and chest.I only do one day of arm isolation (bicep and tricep) per week and I do
those on leg day.......And yeah, watch out for Cohen if you try the Shania routine!

Well, I've also read about the pinky thing. Must've been in one of
countless Schwarzenegger(ghosted by?), Kennedy, Reynolds, Darden, etc.
books on bodybuilding.Quoted message said:
Does anyone agree with this and
implement this method?Generally, I'm not a big machine fan, but stick with it for a few weeks
and report back on your results. So far as implementing goes, I do
dumbbell curls and perform them with a rotating manner of execution.
Uh, I turn my wrist and, yeah, my pinkies are then closer to my body
than my thumbs.Like arms? Then check this out:

None of them, not one, picked bicep work.If you play the limited-workout game, and choose an
arm-only exercise, you have to leave out an entire
big-muscle group. So of course nobody chose an arm-only exercise.
The first two exercises I'd add to any of their lists
would be curls and tricep presses. And then I'd change all the upper-body barbells to
dumbbells, to reduce the arms' contribution/interference
in the chest/shoulder/back exercises.--Blair
