    Plotting a ride to Strawberry Peak, San Gabriel Mountains,
    next weekday off I get. Any one that has done this ride
    could you send me some good trail directions.

    Buy some USGS quadrangles and figure it out on your own,
    using a Thomas Brothers to cross-reference. Back before all
    of the trendoids decided mountain biking was so stylish,
    that's the way I did it and found my way easily around the
    San Gabriels.

    I do that but maps do not list if trails are open or closed to bikes.

    Now that's just silly. I get a booklet from my local land
    office ( usually FS ) that lists what trails are open and
    closed to what kind of travel... horses, mountain bikes,
    dirt bikes, ATV's etc. It's called a forest travel guide up
    here, and I think every forest does one annually. they also
    post signs, you know: the kind with the slash throught
    things that are prohibited....

    USFS Angeles National Forest map. Anyway, they're all open
    up there around Strawberry Peak.
