    | Saw a friend of mine that I had not seen in about
    | a year, he lost a good 60lbs and said he wasn't
    | following a "particular" plan other than just
    | reducing the carbs and the types of carbs in his
    | diet, I tend to eat alot of snacks or side items
    | which contain carbs like crazy, usually pretzels
    | or chips, what suggestions or things can someone
    | like me do or use to slowly start modifying these
    | types of carbs to see if after a month or so I
    | notice any differences?
    |
    | Mainly looking for things to swap out for side and
    | snack items with daily lunch, I have limited pasta
    | intake to almost zero and breads I have switched
    | to whole grain vs white enriched and usually only
    | one piece of bread vs two etc etc slow but sure I
    | wanna try a few lower carb choices for a bit and
    | see what it does for me, but I get lost when I
    | think about replacing my chips or pretzels (which
    | I am working harder on eating less of) but am
    | still stuck on (a weakness I guess).
    |
    | I have also added in salads and whole grain
    | oatmeal in the daily mix, and I am trying to get
    | more veggies in too....
    |
    | Thanks for any suggestions or input,

  5. start by cooking a huge batch of smallish meat balls with cheese in them.
freeze them. No filler, minimal onion flakes. Very little tomato product
(no to tomato paste, full of corn starch) eat these for snacks with a stick
of celery or even a High Fiber Rye Krisp later on in the month post
    induction.

nuke shaken eggs in a tupperware cup for 1.6 minutes on high. cover will
pop off, but egg should be OK>

  6. Your average Jerky has lots of sugar in it. I get mine from a local
producer in Kamloops who uses Stevia rather than sugar FOR NO MORE MONEY
than the rest of her stuff. So does pepperoni have lots of filler and sugar
in it, too depending on the packer. Peanut butter is good by there is 3 or
4 carbs a tablespoon, I think. Unsweetened of course.

go here for more info on that:

    http://www.annecollins.com/dietary-carbs/carbs-peanut-butter.htm

There are various boutique stall low-carb snacks out there. One that I've
seen is low gluten corn and potato starch puffs. Not too bad, but a
substitute for something like pringles or some other junk so therefore just
a temporary fix. I miss rice most of all, and sneak some into my meals
    whenever I feel rebellious.

I have a couple of good jerky recipes that do not have any type of
sugar in them if you or anyone else is up to making thier own.

  8. Thanks, ya, I was referring to the common commercial varieties in the shrink
packs. Most of them use a sweet brine or rub to cure and ready the strips.

Pickles????? All pickles I've seen in american markets
    have sugar added.

Carrots??????? They are very forbidden by Dr Atkins.
Carrots have the potato feature plus they are sweet.

Drink carrot juice and see how sweet it is.

Haven't you seen those Mount Olive Bread&Butter Splenda Sweeten pickles?

  11. There are foods that can be used as small snacks. Things like: cheese,
salami, pork rinds, pecans, hard boiled eggs, etc.

Since you like snacking, you might consider eliminating large meals, and
    only eating frequent small snacks.

Even if you start on your own program (as I did), it is very useful to read
up on related programs like Atkins. "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" is
inexpensive. Also, the Atkins website is free.

You must not have looked very hard. The majority of pickles don't have
sugar added, dill pickles being a good example. Typically, sugar is
only added to the sweet ones, like the Bread/Butter style ones. Even
those are available from B&G and MT Olive in sugar free versions.

Maybe I should rethink eating carrots as a snack then. (Although they
really do not seem to increase my blood sugar level.)

  14. Thanks for all the ideas and information, will
start to sub. a few things at a time
and do some more homework and reading, hopefully
    stepping away from the
pasta and breads and carb loaded things like
pretzels (which I eat the most) will
help me go down a bit weight wise too...

  17. Mt. Olive makes a wonderful pickle with Splenda. Dills and other non-sweet
    types have no sugar either.

Carrots are not forbidden, they are to be eaten in moderation. Raw
cauliflower is good, especially with a nice sour cream based dip.
