I've had a good week 3 on my low-carb adventure....slowly but steadily continuing to lose the weight.
Last night I had some hot wings (15) from a local bar...not much sauce on them...just curious if there is any rough way to estimate the carb count on something like this?

have you checked the usda.gov's website? they might have some hot wings on their list that resemble the ones you've eaten.

If the pub used more of a traditional/basic recipe, where the wings are simply put in the deep fryer with no coating and tossed in a hot sauce/butter mixture upon removing, the carb count would be very low - close to zero.
However, some restaurants will dust even 'non-breaded' wings with a light coating of cornstarch before frying. Only way to know for sure is to ask.
And even if they were dusted with something 15 wings would have a negligable carb count anyway especially if you were good all day. Its the beer ya have to drink with hot wings that's bad unless of course you can settle for one light beer LOL!!!! Laureen 410/326/180

I dunno,JD is bourbon whisky right? Probably not too horrendous Brad. I used to drink an occassional Southern Comfort and Coke. It was delicious but no more. Cant have sugar now. WLS patients are alcohol light weights. Not only am I cheap date but a cheap drunk now too LOL!!!!!!!
I don't drink much...haven't drank since starting this WOE on April 1....however, I just HAD to have some alcohol with my wings....and I was actually noticing a small buzz from one drink. Yikes. It would have taken several of that same drink back when I was eating for 3. 🙂

It's a low carb thing./ Lots of people report getting drunk from sniffing bottle caps ROFL. I am a double whammy since I low carb and have had gastric bypass within the last 11 weeks. I have no stomach to hold it and absorb from so it would go straight out of my little tummy to the blood stream. Havent tested the waters yet, dont intend to for a while. My sister had WLS and she is on her lips after one 8 ounce glass of wine and before ity took like a whole bottle. Mind you, there isnt much in a bottle of wine when you consider the skinny thick glass! You probably would have been pretty lit having a couple more drinks Brad. Be careful K? Cheers!!! Laureen

Fried wings that have not been dusted with cornstarch or flour are more of a golden yellow than a golden brown.
Once you've fried naked wings at home (a FryDaddy is about $15, and fries a dozen wing pieces in about 15 mins) it's fairly obvious whether restaurant wings were fried naked or not (and most are not). If they were dusted, estimate about 10g carb for 15 wings.
Traditional Buffalo wing sauce is margarine/butter plus non-carby hot sauce, but some restaurants add some sweet barbecue sauce.
I don't drink much...haven't drank since starting this WOE on April 1....however, I just HAD to have some alcohol with my wings....and I was actually noticing a small buzz from one drink. Yikes. It would have taken several of that same drink back when I was eating for 3. 🙂
Low-carb food doesn't tend to soak up much alcohol in your stomach like carby food does, so it gets into your blood stream a lot faster.

If properly made, the carbs should be zero. Butter/margarine, hot sauce, and some spices. That's it.

Most hot wings have around 55 calories, 5-6 g of protein, and 1 g of carbs, per wing.
So, your bar bill included 825 calories (plus another 100 calories or so for the sauce), 83 g of protein, and 15 g of carbs. They're also loaded with sodium and cholesterol, making them a poor choice from a cardiovascular point of view.
Wow...I hadn't thought of that. 🙂 thanks for the heads up. I definitely won't be dining on them every night.

Can somebody post a link to a peer-reviewed research paper in any of the major medical journals where the impact of dietary cholesterol intake is discussed? I've looked and can't seem to find any...

Ya can start by asking someone at the restaurant how they make them, preferably BEFORE you order them

I ask and they usually have no idea. And if they are wrong you are still the one that pays the price.
I think you can put a little on a test strip to see what the BG content is.

Low-carb food doesn't tend to soak up much alcohol in your stomach like carby food does, so it gets into your blood stream a lot faster.
When you drink your liver is busy metabolizing the alcohol instead of dumping glucose into your bloodstream in response to lowering insulin levels. If you have been eating low carb or not a lot of food, you won't have a lot of glucose in your blood or much stored in your liver. When you are diabetic you need to eat some carbs when you drink to keep BG from going too low while your liver is occupied.
