No, like the sign on the door says, this is a low carb group.

    It is spelled - L. O. W. C. A. R. B.

    Atkins is spelled - A. T. K. I. N. S.

If you look closely you will see that there is a difference.

    Regards

    David

While there are a lot of people here doing Atkins, any kind of
low-carbing is on-topic here. Personally, I don't do any "named" diet,
but I eat low-carb in order keep my blood glucose in line. I am
    diabetic.

    Welcome!

    Black Cat,

Don't worry. Not everybody is grumpy here, or at least not all the time!

  5. Don't worry about J. David Anderson. He is just an ass.

Welcome. There are all kinds of low carb diets going on here. Mostly
Atkins, but I am just on a low carb diet. I don't eat Atkins junk food.

Uh, you do know that eating fake foods isn't a required component of
    Atkins, don't you?

Why does it matter to you?

There may be a reason for this, so I'm waiting to see. Black Cat may
    be looking to do a
vegan or vegetarian "lower carb" thing. I've seen people before who
    were perfectly happy
doing a low carb diet - as long as nobody pointed out it was low carb.
    ;-)

    Take care,
    Carmen

    Priscilla

    What, me grumpy?

No way, actually I was in a good mood but even then, I find it hard to
not have a dig at people who ask silly questions. This is usenet, if you
come across a group that is devoted exclusively to a particular topic it
will generally have that topic in the name. If you are still uncertain,
then reading a few posts will generally clear up any confusion. If that
    fails, there is always Google.

Besides I like winding up the Atkin's Advokates, the Induction Mafia,
the Atkin's SS (Singularly Stupid) "All Carbs are EVIL" nutcases, those
who can't see past the induction stage and believe every study
disagreeing with their personal view regarding extreme low carb dieting
is maliciously false regardless of its source. You know, those who live
by Atkin's early viewpoints and ignore his later warnings.

You are not one of those people are you Priscilla?

    Regards

    David (definitely not grumpy)

Only a small bit of me Curt, just a little bit now that I have lost so
    much weight. <g>

In fact my ass gets any smaller & bonier I will need to find a cushion
    to sit on.

Don't worry. I have a dig at people who just can't shut up and ignore
"silly questions". We all have our pet peeves, don't we?

Yep. And since this is usent you sure won't mind if I call you a little
self-righteous [censored] and killfile you, ok? ;-)

It just needs one [censored] to spoil a group for newbies.

Sometimes I think usenet is the playground for people who were kicked
out of all existing mailing lists you can think of. ;-)

Okay, then here are some resources for you to start with. We have a
few vegetarian low carbers from time to time, so if you'd like to get
their attention you should start a thread with something appropriate.

This next link is a former vegetarian low carber, but she hasn't taken
    her page down.

    hi there!

I am a vegetarian following atkins for about 1 1/2 years and have done
pretty well on it (lost 100+ lbs) so it can be done for sure!!! I do
use veggie meat and the like to help with meals and get some good
    protein in !

here is my favorite site of all for veggie low carbers:

    http://forum.lowcarber.org/forumdisplay.php?f=109

There are a ton of excellent recipe ideas, lots of vegetarians there
who are all very helpful and it is one of the most active veggie sites
    I've seen.

    Good luck!

Isn't it difficult, if you do vegan lowcarb? Isn't it difficult to get
enough proteines and fat and still don't eat much carbohydrate, when you
don't eat anything from animals? If you are vegetarian you can eat fish,
but if you're vegan, what can you eat then?

Many vegetarians consider that if you eat fish, you're not a
vegetarian. Many vegetarians I know are OK with eating dairy and eggs
because they are not 'products of slaughter' (in other words, the
animal survives the experience) but would never consider allowing
anything that was once alive pass their lips voluntarily, including
    fish.

There are a number of non-animal protein sources. Yes, they usually
come with some carbs attached, and if one is a vegan low-carber these
need to be factored in to one's plan, but it can be done. In fact,
Cyndi Norman, a former regular poster, has a long list of non-animal
protein sources, divided into low-carb and high-carb varieties
(together with animal protein sources, for comparison) and listing
their protein, carb and fat amounts, together with calories at
