  1. I know there really is not any 100% punture proof system out there, but can
anyone recommend the best protection out there.
I have heard of of a inner tube liner, and also of some gel you put into
    your tyre.

Really I want to ask you the experts on this, which is best and most
    convenient ?
By the way I am interested more in a Road bike tyre, not a MTB tyre.

    Cheers,

good tyre.tube fitting, quality inner tubes, constant checking of tyres after glassy bits, correct pressures for your weight and road conditions ( dont over inflate or underinflate).

I rarely puncture, whether this is good luck or good management, who knows, but 3-5000klms between incidents isnt too bad.

I am more mindfull of pinch flats than punctures, as I can generally pick out the [censored] sections or glass or bolts etc ( not always but I try)...pinch flats though can happen easily if the rim tape moves and exposes the rim flanges at the top of the spoke holes, these need to be checked and to be reset every tube change , and best of all filed lightly before the fist tyre goes on a rim and the rim tape is applied (carefully)....

other wise say a constant prayer to the puncture gods and keep offerings coming.....

I would recommend decent tyres and inflate them to the recommended pressure
(I am 100kg and run mine at 110psi). I have never tried any of the puncture
proof liners or sealants but a mate of mine in Adelaide used to commute
through an area that had lots of thorns (we used to call them "three
cornered jacks"😉 and he tried everything. After trying a few different
types of sealant and liners, he found that he was still getting multiple
punctures so he switched to solid tyres (he was on a roadie). He said that
they weren't too bad in terms of ride and obviously he didn't get any more
punctures but he said that they wore out really quickly. He has since
bought a motorbike and now commutes on it instead.

"Slime" sealant works REALLY well. I dunno what Slaws tubes looked like
after "The Trip" but mine both had HEAPS of little green spots when I
changed the tyres. There was only ONE puncture that needed a tube
replacement on that trip and that was caused by a sharp rock somewhere
near Mt Beadell(sp?) - at least I _think_ it was there, slaw??

I used the same tubes WITHOUT patching any of the holes for another 6
week trip and all I ever did was put a few strokes of the pump in each
    tyre every morning.

For my money - Slime is GOOD stuff...:-)

    A number of good options:

Slime - a green liguid that you put in the tube
Stan's No Tubes - a special rim-tape/valve with a latex sealant in the tyre,
allows you to run tubeless, Ithink it can be used with 700C high-pressures
Mr Tuffy tyre liners - nyeaaah! Some like it.

For the last 18 months I've been using Vittoria Randonneur Cross tyres with
a puncture shield in the tread. Excellent! Only one puncture, a slow leak of
indeterminate cause. Not bad for around 6000kms. Mine are 26X1.75 but I
think they make their Randonneur for various sizes including narrow 700C.
    They are not superlight tyres.

    Cheers

    1) Thornproof tubes = very thick tubes.

    2) If your light, then thornproof tyres, but not if you expect your tyre
    walls to flex.

    3) Thicker tyres

    4) Tyre liner, fancy stuff or just a split tube.

    5) tyre scrapper; loop of wire behind front forks/seat stay that scrapes
off picked up thorns, tacks, etc before they can be driven in on the
    next round.

    6) slime, etc.

    You choose.

I am using Conti Gatorskins with thorn tubes. The thorn tubes are quite hard to fit and heavy but well worth it in the long run.

On my mountain bike I have been running thorn tubes for quiet a few years now with positive results.

Yup, I had heaps of green spots on the inside of my tyres too. I don't remember where that puncture occured, but it was specky with the flouro green slime splatter.

After that trip, I still had slimed tubes for a while and remember collecting a 2 inch nail in my rear tyre on the way to the train for an MTB ride. I pulled it out, the slime sealed the hole, and I did the ride without even pumping the tyre.

Haven't bothered with it since and have only had one or two puntures a year if that, by ensuring the tyres are in good nick, properly inflated and avoiding riding through glass.

However, I just put something called Liquid Patch from Autobarn into my tubeless tyres for the Melbourne 12 hour enduro Saturday. One of my team checked out the course on Friday and got 2 punctures from thorns on the track so I wanted some insurance. Between the 3 of us in the team we had 0 punctures but then we had me with the slime stuff, one with Mr Tuffys and one with no protection. Heaps of people had punctures, but probably from pinch flats the track had been cleared of some of the thorns but there were sections that were very rocky.

[censored] - look at those WHEELS and TYRES.... I'm pretty sure I
wouldn't like to be pumping those suckers up with a Blackburn
    Airstick..:-)

I hope it all works out for him - he seems pretty well set up for it.
