  1. My mother, as per the title, has for a while had a bit of puffiness below
her knees that hurts only when pressure is applied. She doesn't know what's
causing it, and she has no other symptoms. Can anyone, from this scant
information, make a few suggestions as to what this might be and how to
    alleviate it?

    Many thanks in advance,
    A. Ballien

How are the legs before she gets up in the morning?

There are a number of things which may cause
this condition. All require the intervention of
a physician. She should be evaluated as soon
    as possible.

No especial pains then; they're just tender whenever pressure is applied.

Any puffiness after all night in bed?
Or does that show up later?

More along the lines of "is the puffiness less in the morning?"

One of the things that can cause both puffiness (edema) and
tenderness in the lower legs is poor venous circulation.
Elevating the feet (as in, lying down) tends to help, so
    the swelling goes down overnight.

The tenderness is from long-term damage to the tissues and
    doesn't disappear so quickly.

I'm waiting for Jan to rant about "PERSONAL EXPERIENCE."
