At work this morning reflecting on Saturday's WFJ. Despite my [censored]
I thought it was a good event and did the job of getting the message
across.
However I couldn't get it out my head that more people would have gone
if they'd known about it; at least that's what I hoped. One of the
sysadmins at work is a MTB type (one of those multi day Alice Springs
nutters). I mailed him basically saying words to the effect of "dunno
if you're across this WFJ thing, Ride of Silence next fifteenth of May."
Turns out he was totally oblivious to the whole McGee affair and was a
little gutted that he didn't know about the WFJ ride on Sat. He's a BV
member and acts on stuff BV inform him about. BV didn't push it so he
didn't know.
Fair enough, I dropped the ball on that one. I should have mailed all
the cyclists at work and asked them to pass it on; something I've done
for ROS on the fifteenth. What I'm basically saying is that it's very
easy for Usenet / Internet types like me to assume that others affected
by issues are across the same information I am. That's a mistake I made
and I don't intend to make it again.
So other than passing information on to work colleagues / friends by
mail, how are we going to reach all the other cyclists out there?
