PT SL "shark fin" sensor?

I don't think you have to specify that you want it. I just ordered a new one and that's what I got. I have no idea if it's "better" or not, but it seems to work. It does have a rubber anti-vibration pad built in.

A buddy of mine got a Pro unit and it came with the shark fin as well.

I just got a new SL and after one week ordered another mounting kit, neither have the shark fin receiver.

When you ordered the extra receiver, did you also get an extra computer mount (for the handlebar)?

I'm looking at the CycleOps website (cycleops.comaccessoriesindex.htmOpen ↗) and it seems (from the picture) that the computer mount is not included?

Anybody who knows?

The new shark fin receiver was designed to cure the SL issues of getting dropout when coasting. This could also be cured by placing foam rubber under the receiver, as Rap Daddyo has demonstrated.

The shark fin comes with a handlebar mount for the computer, which can be mounted either on the handlebars or the stem.

The shark fin works with previous models of the PT as well as the SL. With the SL the receiver needs to be placed as close as possible to the hub as you can manage and preferably no further than 3 inches or ~7.5 cm away. You should try to place it ~ 1 inch/2.5 cm from the hub, and it should be installed perpendicular to the hub axle.

I *think* for the non-SL hubs the receiver should be placed further away, however, it may well work in the same place if you are switching wheels out (it did for me).

Other new things that are starting to come with more recent deliveries is a USB downloader, and the Power Agent software. This can also be downloaded for free from the PT site (it's being updated).

I just ordered a second receiver from cycle ops to use the power tap computer as a regular cyclo computer on my second bike and it does come with the computer mount that attach's to the handle bars, it's permanently affixed to the wire that runs to the receiver. The Cadence sensor however is removable.

I love the fact that the new receiver unit can be mounted on the stem via the adjustable curved adapter for the handlebar part, it does add a bit of height to the computer, but it's well worth it. I just wish my standard computer came with it cause that built in center mounting is the easiest way to get it on the stem and out of the way of clip on aero bars. I'll have to jerry rig something with the standard receiver, i'm not really crazy about paying 60$ for to replace my old censor i already have on my racing bike.

Make your own stem mount with four zip ties and a piece of rubber inner tube. Criss cross two zip ties on the stem and intersect the two zip ties needed for the normal CPU mount, placing the rubber in between the mount and the stem. It sits a bit high, but works. Some electrical tape may be needed to finish off the install.

, but glad to see the stem adapter comes with it, even though the ziptie solution has worked for me
