  1. So, I just started road biking. I'm also into weightlifting a lot as well. Saying that i'm currently 5'11" and weighing in around ~200lbs every morning.

Is that a good weight for road biking or should I shed a few pounds? I've tried to get into distant running in the past couple months, but I still feel like i'm dragging myself because of my weight. I have some pretty powerfull thighs from lifting, but most of the bikers I see have very skinny thighs. Is having large thighs a problem with road biking? I would think it would help, especially climbing hills, but I really don't know.

Any response would be helpfull, and thanks 😄

According to calculators ( Ideal Weight Easy Online Tool | Active.com )

The ideal weight for a person your height would be between 136 and 172 pounds.

This of course is all dependent on body mass, muscle mass, etc. 200lbs is probably a little high for that height.

Just to answer your question a little more directly, the more you weigh, the more energy you tend to use, which tends to make your heart rate a little higher. There is, of course, a lot of variables there, depending on your training etc.

For example, one of my triathlon books states, "A runner weighing 160 lbs burns 6.5 % more energy than a runner weighing 150 lbs and maintaining the same pace" But again, there are a lot of variables 😄 Hope that helps a little.

  3. No "proper" weight the last time I checked the rulebook.
Roadies come in ALL shapes, sizes - and yes, colors😄.

At your weight, you'll only have an issue if you want to race, as you'll probably have to stick to flatland races if you're looking for some success. If you're strictly a recreational rider, your weight doesn't matter - your body's muscles will adapt to the stresses propelling a bicycle places on them regardless.

  4. Start doing some local "no-drop" group rides to build up your endurance. Even heavier cyclists can climb hills, in fact we sometimes enjoy it. 😄

 Don't be spreading rumors like that. 😠

You know the only purpose going uphill has is to go downhill, FAST! 😉

  6. There is no proper weight for a roadie, but the lighter you are the easier it is for you to go uphill. The main thing is to find a weight that allows you to be happy and ride like you want. Like someone said roadies come in all shapes and sizes some are small some are big.
From my personal experience i am strongest and lightest at 135. I can go lower but i lose power. By the way i am 5'11".
Just find a weight that makes you happy and try to stay there

OMG yes! It's all about the plunge. My record is 41 mph on a straight (66 kph for you redcoats:p). And thinking, "No flats, no flats, no flats!"

A friend told me the best advice for climbing is to become a stick. That's just not going to happen for some, myself included. (5'9" at 190 lb)

  8. Hi, I have read this post. Yoga is the best for our health. I have done my yoga teacher training course. Schedule is very important, when we are doing any type of workout and yoga also.
