Heheh. For my junior prom, I did go with a guy from my old school. He
even had a girlfriend at the time, but he went with me anyway. Then he
graduated and moved away. I didn't have much time for socializing once I
started at the performing arts school, since after school I was in
rehearsals, and I didn't have a car so I couldn't go to any of the
post-rehearsal gatherings unless I could get a ride. I did that for a
while, one girl lived near me, so she'd give me rides. But after the
second time she "forgot" me and stranded me, I stopped doing that. I
didn't make one friend at that school, partly because I started in 11th
grade and they'd all been there since 8th, partly because I didn't have a
car, partly because the program was very competitive and it's hard for
teenagers to be friends with someone they're up against for a role, and
partly because I didn't really fit in for various reasons (fat, poor, not a
dancer or singer) I remember one time, the group I ate lunch with was
making plans to go to a Braves game together. I said "It's funny, I grew
up in Atlanta and I've never been to a Braves game." And one girl said "Oh,
you should go with your friends some time." And I kept quiet but I was
thinking "I thought you guys _were_ my friends, but I guess not." It
wasn't that important. I wanted to go that school to learn about theater,
and I learned a lot, and it was worth it.
