Don't forget Basso achieved his contre la montre victory at the Giro
against a watered down field. I don't think he'll place that high in
those kind of stages in the tour. Although he may be improved from last
year.

Actually, this is going to be one of the more-exciting opening-day stages
ever. At 20k it's more than just a ceremonial prologue, and there are a
whole lotta people who have a shot at a top-5 finish, including-

Levi, Lance, Zabriskie, Jan, Floyd, Hincapie, Rogers, Botero, Basso, Julich
(long shot, but could happen), McGee, Cancellara... and a bunch of others
who might happen upon a great day. My guess is that the sprinters are going
to take this one more seriously that might otherwise be the case, because a
poor showing here would kill off any chance of them wearing the Yellow
Jersey later on.

A very exciting first week. I still can't figure out why there's no Ventoux,
Alpe d'Huez or Tourmalet this year. Seems strange that not a single one of
them made the cut.

Yes, yes, I know all about him. Won some impressive races in the last
12 months and all that. Not sure who Zebraskie is. That would be an

Nope. Too long and too hard (all headwind (maybe), not a loop or turn)
for any sprinter to stay within 2 stage wins of time bonuses (40
seconds?) of the specialists that want to win (McGee, Cancellara,
Rogers, Zabriski) or the GC contenders that are marking the winners.
Not without a breakaway, anyway.

Sure, why not? I bet two tablespoonfuls of Vegemite that he doesn't
get the yellow. He has to come within 40 seconds of the winner, and
win both stages 2 and 3 so that he could wear yellow and lose it in the
TTT. I don't think he can do that.

I'd forgotten about McGee but that's right - he's really going great guns.

Remembering that this is a longish 'prologue' I suppose that I might lean a
little heavier towards Jan than I did.

I suspect that we're going to see a great deal of Beloki this year. I
figured him for blown but that interview with him really showed that he has
his head on his shoulders again. I'm happy about that and wish him great
luck in this Tour.

their payments and collections balance. The idea for bettors is to
spot when their competition is betting with their heart against
conditions as they exist. With respect to Armstrong the best _bet_
is against a GC podium finish.
