  1. πŸ™„ Did you ever notice that there is always about 3xs the number of people checking out the equipment forum, versus the training forum? I wonder if we care more about our junk than our riding performance, always trying upgrade our vehicle instead of the engine? These may be unrelated, but it seems possibleπŸ™„

  2. Wayfast: I'm tempted to agree with you, because I'm a racer, but the truth is that there are far more non-racing cyclists than there are USCF members. Most people ride for fun and health, and don't really "train" (if you define training as working towards a specific quantifiable goal). Therefore it is more fun to play with (and post entries about) equipment than it is to read about training. Heck, I have more fun thinking about the equipment I'd like to own than I do training (which isn't fun - the structured training part is work!) The stats are simply reflecting the demographic.

  3. Yeah, what he said! πŸ™„ The equipment aspect of cycling is half the fun. And if you have several bikes it would be too expensive to have all of them serviced at the LBS.

Yup... Just look at how many people trick out their cars, homes, bodies... but never 'enter' them / themselves into a contest or competition.

  5. With over 60% of the USA being Obese... That tells you right there that we as a nation are more into toys that taking care of our selfs...

  6. It's the same in every sport or activity. I plan training, and train on the bike, but I have all day to dream of different and new cycling gear constructed of the latest unobtanium alloys. If I only had the money to back up the dreams.

  7. as a full time mom i plan my day around my training!!! i do a few races a season but focus on the endurance rides so have to plan on many hours in the saddle. NO TIME FOR EQUIPMENT DREAMING!!!! OR THE MONEY FOR THAT MATTER what with the kids and all. As soon as they're off to school I do a time check list and see how quickly i can do my chores, run errands so I can get on my bike for maximum quality riding time before picking the kids up from school. Such dedication πŸ˜„

  8. OUR BIKES ***VERSUS*** MY MOTORMOWER

    OK, here it is.
I have a motormower. It's excellent. Four stroke. Starts first time - does all I want it to do. I never service it. I do clean it. I don't think about it when I'm not using it.

My bikes - they do all I want them to do, of course if I had X gear for them they(so I think) would do it better. So I think about upgrading. Buy magazines based on tests in them etc.

Why can't I have the same attitude to my bikes as my motormower?!

Then my brain would be more concerned, enlighten, empassioned by the things that REALLY matter in life(my health/fitness being one of them).
