The pride: My daughter is an avid reader.... her school has an "Accelerated Reader" program where kids get credit points for reading books and taking tests on them. while still a Fifth Grader, she is the top reader in the entore school (1-7). for her hard work she has earned all sorts of accolades such as a Limo ride to and from school, a brief spot on the local nightly news, and a brand new bike!
I got a call from her to come to school and pick up her shiny new dual suspension mountian bike.
Her brand new NEXT "Shocker" 21 speed now sits in our garage.... I don't know what I'm going to do with it, she certainly doesnt want to ride it...
She took it for a spin around the block and said "this bike is junk". Well what did you expect, a Bullit or Super Light?????
Perhaps I'll leave it outside and see how long it takes to get stolen

Congrates for your daughter. Nice to hear of kids being publicly recognized for academic achievement. She can donate the POS to a charity and get on TV again.

If you don't donate it to charity sell it on a college campus. Surely some rich kid will spend way too much money just because they like the term "Shocker".
You must be quite pleased with her achievements. She is both book AND street smart. Were you weeping with pride when she declared the NEXT "junk"? Go get that kid some ice cream!

LOL!!! It's like with all those book smarts that came from your SWMBO's side you must have shed a tear when she declared the Shocker [censored].... Ahhh yes she really is her father's daughter!!!

Why not drive to the poor section of town and make some random kid's day? Attach a note verifying it's not stolen (what parent is going to believe someone just GAVE their kid a new bike?), and give it a good tuning first! 😉

She just wants to drop it off at the Thrift Shop out at our base... anon. Don't know if she doesn't want the attention, or just doesn;t want to be seen with a NEXT ;-)

HEY...... I made Dean's List the last 3 semesters! (dreading Algebra101 next semester though ;-(
Just convert everything to Units of Beer -- ("If a keg holds x gallons of beer and each mug is y ounces, how many co-eds will puke before 10 PM EST?) -- and you'll do just fine.
There's a program in my area that gives donated bikes to
disadvantaged youth.

Maybe you could find a similar program?
I'd prefer to take it out and donate it to the Thrift Shop on Base.... There are plenty fo kids on base lacking because one or both of thier parents are deployed out to sea or in the sand-box.

Funny how one could see a bicycle shaped toy as a reward instead of a curse. It sounds like a garage sale item, so just keep it "shiny".
