I was wondering if anyone had a favorite recipe for pretzels. I using make a yeast dough, and then shape the pretzels, boil them in water with baking soda (although a German woman suggested lye), and sprinkle salt, and bake in an oven of about 400 until they turn golden brown.

If you use lye make sure you get a food grade lye. Even if you can find food grade lye it is still dangerous and can be poisonous if used incorrectly.

I use the recipe from JOC (Joy of Cooking). It works great, and makes terrific bagels as well.
