It's expensive! We occasionally buy banana bread but these days it
either costs too much or doesn't actually contain bananas!

Quoted message said:What's your pre-ride routine? I'm particularly interested to know how
much other people eat before a big ride.Personally, I NEED to have a good breakfast before a ride. I try to eat
at least 1 hour before riding, so generally have to be up at 6am to
have breakfast if we've planned for an early start. Usually it's four
pieces of toast with liberal amounts of jam and peanut butter plus one
or two cups of coffee. An extra hot jam donut or pastry from a bakery
if we're driving out somewhere is nice too.
You're all making me feel like a heath freak who eats a lot. I usually
have a large bowl of muesli with soy milk or if I'm in a hurry 7
Weetbix. I eat about 30 mins before I ride but by body has become
accustomed to digesting and riding so it's not a problem. I'm usually
starving again by the time I get to work after the 1.5 hr ride and eat
a heap of raisin bread or something.

I heard on the TV the other day that banana prices should start coming
down. I haven't been to the supermarket in nearly two weeks - what's
the latest price?

I noticed a couple of days ago. They peaked here around $13.50/kg or
so, and are now down to $11.30/kg or so. But gee, they looked a lot
better than the ones that were costing $13.50! Yellow, almost proper
size, instead of blackened small ugly things.
The cost has probably gone down because no one is buying them (how the
guvt figured that was the cause of inflation, I donut know).

The price in WA peaked at $16.99, because most of our bananas were being
sent East. The Growers here, who didn't have a disaster, made a packet. WA
bananas are the smaller variety, doesn't sound like they travelled well.

always start off with 2 cups of earl grey tea (i refuse to open my eyes without them) and then some nice swiss museli with soy milk, or if im in a hurry, nothing, with a red bull and some fruit when i get there.
i found some 'nanas here for $8/kg 🙂

abormally large amount, isn't it? I don't know where all my food goes).
Not really. When I was commuting a decent distance (25km) I wore an HRM
most days just because I had one. It reckoned 6 vitabrits [1] plus real
milk left me just a touch in deficit for the morning, but enough to keep
going until a bakery treat around 10 am or so.
[1] Damn weetbix eating heathens....

Report in the paper said banana supply should be back to near normal in
October. They only take 6 months to grow. See them now for 9.99 in Burwood,
Sydknee. However, bananas are half fibre so not that good as a quick energy
fix, contrary to popular opinion.

They might be a bit irregular for a while. Last time there was a big
cyclone, all the growers 'pushed' their crops to get a crop and
cashflow as quick as they could. All the bananas came to fruit at once
and consequently there was a glut and price crash. This time, they are
organising the industry so production is staggered and the price will
stay up a bit, is their hope.

The fibre - yes, ultra runners avoid 'em for that very
reason.
