The sample lady at Wal-Mart was handing out mini tacos made with this stuff. It actually wasn't bad. It comes in a foil pouch and it's in the canned meat section. I could see keeping a pouch or two on hand for a serious time crunch meal. You could have tacos in less than 10 minutes with this stuff.
There are two other flavors but I only tried the Mexican flavor.

For 'time crunch' instances wouldn't Taco Bell be mucho pronto...

If not Mexican flavored it wouldn't be a taco, si... not unless your talking the kinda tuna-taco I'm thinking... hehe

They probably use canner or cutter grade beef in that [censored]. You are better off buying ground beef (it's better if you grind your own,) and buy one of those boxed taco kits in the market. Much better than that Wal-Mart stuff, but not nearly as good as an authentic Mexican recipe--which btw you can get in just about every kiosk in Dist. Federal; Mexico City

That's too far on the 'mystery meat' scale for me. Maybe for fallout shelter supplies...

Hmmm, bunker mentality. Haven't seen that since the 1970's, and I live in tornado and earthquake country.
I don't use hamburger for tacos, anyway. I use spicy hot pork sausage. Combine that with your taco seasoning and see if it doesn't add a bite!

You're brave, Kathy! I saw that stuff at my Wal-Mart, but wasn't eager to try it. It just sounds so odd -- non-refrigerated hamburger...

LOL, I don't think it was bravery. It was fairly early in the day and I hadn't eaten any thing yet and it smelled pretty good. Amazing the things you'll try before common sense wakes up and takes over. It really was better than I expected. It pretty much resembled the meat you'd get on a taco at Taco John's or Taco Bell. I'm not saying that's excellent mind you, just better than I expected and not worse than commercial taco meat.

I just picked up some frozen pre-cooked ground beef (Italian flavor) at H-E-B yesterday. Used it in my stromboli tonight, and it wasn't half bad. Saved me time, too.

I can't beleive you, of all people, are endorsing this pre-cooked bastardized 'meat product'. Who makes it?

I have no idea who makes it!! I know, I almost never use any kind of pre-cooked or convenience foods of any kind. For that matter I don't even buy grocery store meat! They caught me off guard. I guess that's what happens when you go to the store before you're fully awake and have had something to eat!! LOL If I hadn't actually tasted I'd never buy it either. I probably won't buy it more than a couple of times during tax season when I don't have any time to cook. I'll make up for it later in the spring and throw a couple of briskets on to smoke.

You spent that time working to make the money to save the time you saved cooking, but the time you spend working is often more than the time you save cooking.

Well, there's tuna in a pouch, salmon in a pouch, and chicken in a pouch, so why not hamburger? No more scary to have non-refrigerated hamburger than any of the others.

Chicken in a pouch? I haven't seen that one. Fish is different -- no one gets e-coli from fish...
