I saw 'XR3i' in big, white, 20cm letters on a _windscreen_
    the other day.

I might get 'Polo L' for mine. You know, just in case anyone
    was wondering.

Around here I don't seem to see many... the local yoof
don't seem to have gone for Saltires instead as yet, but
maybe not being in the fitba next week is a deciding
    factor there.

I had been wondering if the Scots had a similar pratt
warning system. I assume the Welsh don't, as AFAIK they
    don't have a football team.

Just as a FYI, the Welsh team was knocked out of the
European Championships at the play-off stage by Russian
    drug cheats.

I bought a rather nice car flag from ASDA in Merthyr a
couple of weeks ago, but it will not be making its debut on
the camper van until the Alpe d'Huez TT stage next month.

I find that exhaust note and a quantity of tail surfaces
that wouldn't look out of place on an F14 are a pretty
    reliable indication...

That's if you can hear the exhaust over the 120 bpm being
put out by 2kW of bass bins...

Always fancied getting to one of these cars when it was
parked up, or in the garage (having an even bigger exhaust
fitted!), and putting an enormous transfer on it that reads
    "Small knob".

And on that note, I did appreciate the (hopefully) tongue-in-
cheek humour of the genuine sports car with registration PEN

I actually wonder if they're playing special compilations
made up, something like "Ferrari Daytona overlaid with
    mindless bumchkkabumchkkabumchkka, Beach Barbecue Ibiza
Remix '98 Featuring DJ Vacant", as that way you could
simulate the noise of a serious engine more easily than
having to modify the output of a vanilla 1.1 to sound like
something that can actually drive fast.

I am somewhat sceptical of the claimed power of these stereo
systems. While they do appear to be pretty loud, the fact
that I can make my whole (fairly solid 30s) house shake
fairly easily with a decent 30 watt amp and reasonably
sensitive pair of speakers with fair low end suggests that
if you had Yer Ackchewal Genuine couple of KW on tap you'd
not only deafen the occupants but vibrate their vehicle's
    welds undone...

1 - astonishment subsequently decreased after witnessing
a different Mrs. Prat asking the cashier in my local
Sainsbury's whether they sold Prat-Flags. Mercifully,
    they did not.

Don't they? My local branch has a whole aisle bedecked
with St George memorabilia/clutter. I've no idea what is
stocked as I always walk straight past that aisle. I
    thought they'd have flags though.

I should perhaps have noted that this was in the filling
station bit; while they did have giant economy-sized flags,
they didn't have the car ones. The cashier recommended Tesco
or Asda. There may be space here for a Scholarly Monograph
on the subject of Perceived Versus Actual Social Standing In
Supermarket Customers (i.e. snobbery) but I have a window
    here which needs regular looking-out-of...

Once upon a time someone crept up to Mr Burrows' fully-
faired Windcheetah while it was parked outside a shop in
Norwich, and affixed a sticker thereto. It read "Your car is
    REALLY boring!"

In the early 1980s I used to comment on how the English were
just about the only people not to know what their own flag
looked like. The counter argument to this was that it was
very hard to get hold of an English flag, while one could
easily get hold of a union flag.

    Time has passed...

Sadly not. A number of companies have claimed that their
human rights have been infringed. The most famous example
is probably Lafarge, in connection with the "superquarry"
    in Harris.

Last time I saw a genuine 1kW (might have been 1.5 kW
actually) r.m.s. audio amplifier was way back in the 60's.
It was the size of a phone box and supplied the whole of
Mansfield with the Light Programme. Try putting two of them
in the back of a Fiesta!

A genuine 2k would be more than adequate for amplifying a
voice in a thousand-seater hall. (Years ago I heard a rough
rule of thumb of 1W per seat.) But I've never been able to
understand amplifier ratings, either pro or the inflated
    claims of Dixons/Halfrauds/whatever stuff. There'll
doubtless be a website somewhere, if I get sufficiently
    interested!
