  1. Anyone with any inside knowledge? I've seen a few conflicting reports online about a release date... some quoting next month, others saying June or July.... I'm looking at training with power this year and wondering if I should wait for the 2.4 to be released or just go with the current SL. If the release was absolutely, definitely going to be June, then I might just wait.... does anyone have any inside goss?

  2. Is this the version with the coded HR monitor? What else would it have?

He's referring to the not-yet-released wireless model.

I'm sure the Phonak team will get them before the official release. Haven't heard of any release date.

Phonak road them during the tour last year.
I'm hearing June/July, but some indicators point to an earlier release.

  5. I have a teamate that works at Saris. He is testing the wireless PT right now.

No problems, but the prototype isn't much different than the SL I have right now. Just no wires. He hasn't mentioned the coded HR monitor, but I'd like that feature too.

He's used the PT SL through some of the nastiest slush and mud on his commuter road bike than I've ever seen, and the hub has no problems. I'm impressed! That's what I call real world product testing...

  6. no wires... and USB downloadable.. and none of the fidgetiness of the current setup. i'm hoping some news comes out soon

  7. I just rode with the Saris employee again today and asked a few more questions about the wireless PT. We were riding in32 degree, wet, salty, slushy, snowy weather and he was using the PT wireless...on his cross bike with fenders! That's what I call product testing--real world style.

He had the PT computer in his back jersey pocket the entire ride recoding data since he didn't have a handlebar computer mount installed on the cross bike.

The wireless model hub looks IDENTICAL to the PT SL right now, but there are NO SENSORS or wires to mount to the frame. Zip. Not even a signal redirector. Just straight from the hub to the computer.

He had ZERO droped signals on our 4.5 hour ride today. But it was in his back pocket, not on the handlebars...

The wireless model will include a coded HR strap and USB compatibility. Also PT has just released a new version of the power analysis software, much better than the origional. You can download it now on their website.

No idea on the release date. His is one of 8 prototypes in exsistence right now.

I WANT ONE...but I just bought my PT SL! What to do, what to do...

  8. How about an altimeter - to see the ride profile!!

  9. A Saris Customer Support rep told me they are targeting Q2 (Apr-Jun) for initial sales of the SL 2.4. I plan to be the first one on my block to get one.😄

P.S., I have already sold my SL to a guy in my club. He wants the SL 2.4 to be released more than I do.

  10. some nice solid goss there... that's what we're after... keep it coming 😉

  11. I don't think I would do that because that would put me training/racing without power data for the time I am waiting for the wireless one to come out. Also, can Saris be sure that the early production models won't have any problems??? 🙂 I can wait. Maybe around Sept (end of season for me) to sell my SL for the wireless version.

Oh, I won't be riding without power. My buyer knows he doesn't get my SL until I get the SL 2.4. He'll wait. As to problems, I'll be the guinea pig. If I have problems, I'll post them. If it's fantastic, I'll keep it a secret.😄

I think that taking the wireless PT through the mud, sleet, and snow for over 4 hours each day this past weekend is a testament to the Saris product development squad...I'd have no doubts about the new PT when it comes out. No doubts at all!

Actually, I don't. In part because I understand what they're doing. Fundamentally, they are changing the wireless strain gauges and eliminating the receiver. They've already solved the moisture problem with the re-do of the o-rings, so I don't see why they would have to revisit that issue. The only problem I have had with the current computer is the HRM and I feel certain that will bite the dust with the 2.4 Ghz version. I'm not worried.

I just got my powertapSL from the fedex guy and the box has markings for the 2.4 version.. They must be getting quite close to release if packaging materials are already out... I can take a pic if anyone wants to see a box 😉

I'd like to see that pic. Cool, I better call my LBS and have him get in my pre-order.😄

    Here

  20. I just asked the Saris employee when his prototype is going into production. He didn't give a specific date, but it wasn't in the next 3 months for sure. Don't get too excited yet. He guessed begining of summer sometime.
