I use 5 second averaging for power display (some like 3) and no averaging for anything else.
What PM were you using before? SRM? Why the PT?
I was using the Polar unit, which I managed to get working fairly well on the trainer, except for 1 or 2 gears 🙁 but after a myriad of problems with the 2 units I have, I've just been continually frustrated with their lack of reliability 😠 (one just stops working for no apparent reason and the other, which I have on my training bike at the moment, will ONLY work on the trainer for some bizarre reason 😕 )
It's come to a head these past 2 weeks 'cos our Club 'celebrates' the Uncle Fester (our Club Patron) Month of Madness
Basically, from the 22 Dec 06 until 22 Jan 07, Uncle Fester, and anyone who's silly enough to ride with him, will complete a minimum of 100km per day for the entire month - a GREAT way to establish a good base 😉
I'm working on 5 days 'on' the Month of Madness and 2 days 'off' - read solo recovery and trainer rides.
Without a reliable PM, gauging effort, recovery etc etc is just too haphazard 🙁
Basically, I've just become really p$^^*$ off with the Polar unit (despite an upcoming upgrade (the CS600) which I'm already seeing as a 'cosmetic' fix), and I've set myself some fairly tough targets for this season and I absolutely NEED reliable equipment to achieve these goals.
I've been on this forum for quite a while now, and appreciate that the SL is probably the best 'bang for your buck $$' at present SO...................the SL was ordered this morning.
Apologies for the 'long winded' response but after 2 very long weeks (still haven't finished this one  ) I'm a little 'frazzled' but hanging in there - if you feel the need, come over and join us on a ride next week 😉 - just check out http://pelotonsports.turramurracyclery.com.au/default.aspx for where we're going each day (we decide over the previous day's coffee) 😄 Just look for anything that's titled 'MOM'
