The bike in the link has a (3x) 8 speed transmission, so you need an 8
speed powerlink. If you had a 9 speed drivetrain, you'd need the
slightly narrower 9sp powerlink.

9 speed links are usually gold, 8 speed usually black, but I've seen a
few variants. Just ask for, or order, the specific one you require.
Might as well buy a couple of spares too, they're dirt cheap and weigh
nothing so are handy to keep around or carry while out and about in
case of hiccups.

You'll need an 8-speed since your bike has eight cogs at the back (so
presumably has an 8-speed chain). SRAM Powerlinks are good and work with
most brands of chain, despite being intended for SRAM chain only.

Yes, it's a good idea. Count the number of sprockets at the back wheel.
